Lonely Guardian of Konoha [Completed]

CHAPTER 30

The day had finally come, the finals of the chuunin exams, people had filled up the seats of the arena, roaring in excitement of the battles to come, the hokage was seated at the kage box, behind him were his guards for the day, his students, the three sannin, and next to the hokage was seated the Kazekage, he was alone with no guards at all, of course this was considered strange for a kage to have no guards, bit it was overlooked as most kage proffered more subtle means of protection such as hidden ANBU, in the center of the arena was the proctor, Menma, a jonin, and in front of him stood 7 genin who were about to face each other for a chance to become a chuunin,

"The rules of the finals, are simple, you win if your opponent submits or if it is decided your opponent isms unfit for further battle, and I am allowed to interfere at any moment, the match between naruto Uzumaki-uchiha-Namikaze and Neji hyuuga is being delayed due to the delay of naruto's arrival, and the second match between sasuke uchiha and Gaara is also postponed due to more entertainment purposes, the sound nin named Dosu is missing so that match will be ignored and the first match would be between shikamaru Nara and Temari, all others please exit the arena"

With that all the other contenders went to the stalls, sasuke stood leaning on the railing as choji approached him,

"Sasuke, where's naruto?"

"Well he came to training with kakashi, and I came today morning, when I was coming they were sparring, maybe they still are sparring" replied sasuke,

Seeming satisfied with the reply he received choji didn't inquire any further as he walked away, meanwhile in the arena shikamaru was hiding in the shrubbery while Temari was sending wind attacks in his general direction.

"Why are you hiding!? Come out and face me you coward!" Shouted the irritated Temari,

Almost as if he was waiting for her to call him out as soon as she finished her line shikamaru appeared from a tree landing in the shadow of the wall, he held his hands in a peculiar manner it looked like some kind of hand seal, but none of the others had seen it before, shikamaru was just crouching there with his hands in a seal and closing his eyes. After a while he suddenly opened them and changed his hand sign into a much more familiar one,

"Shadow possession jutsu!" He shouted as his shadow started extending moving fast towards Temari, Temari remembered what this particular jutsu could do, and she jumped back a few times avoiding the shadow, and soon enough the shadow stopped at a point and reeled back to shikamaru,

"Ha, just as I thought, there's a limit to far you can stretch your shadow" said Temari smirking, she then drew a lime pinpointing how far the shadow could get,

Shikamaru showed no reaction as he took out a few kunai, this was when everyone noticed something strange, shinobi always kept their weapon pouches on the side of the arm that they used the most, which for many including shikamaru was the right side, but shikamaru had changed the weapon pouch to his left side, anyway he took out a few kunai and threw it towards Temari, they travelled and landed right in front of Temari plunging themselves into the ground,

"You missed" mocked Temari with the usual smirk on her face,

For the first time shikamaru showed an emotion, he smirked while opening his eyes, then he spoke one word,

"Checkmate" and started to walk forward,

Temari also started to walk forward,

"Wait! Why am I moving! Why can't I control my body!" Shouted Temari as she continued to walk forward,

"The kunai were a distraction, see what you didn't get is I can move my shadow over all shadows, and see the shadow of the wall? Ots goes all around the stadium, now you may have distanced yourself from me but it's shadows you should distance yourself from, and there was a shadow right behind you, your shadow, which was pretty close to the shadow of the wall behind you" explained shikamaru,

Then he used his right hand and did an action that resembled taking a kunai out of the holster, but he didn't have a weapon pouch on that side, unfortunately for Temari she did have a weapon pouch and that side, Temari not having control of her body took out a kunai and held it to her throat, all her former confidence was gone, her eyes held just one emotion, fear, well that was before shikamaru finished his little speech,

"Now, I give up" with that shikamaru released the shadow possession hold and gave up,

"What!?" Shouted Temari in confusion, voicing everyone's thoughts,

"It's too troublesome" Sakura d shikamaru as he yawned and walked away,

"Umm..... the winner is ......Temari" announced the proctor.

"The next match, shino aburame vs Kankuro" announced the proctor,

"Proctor. I forfeit" said Kankuro not even bothering to come down from the stands

Shino glared at Kankuro as he seethed his teeth, he was looking forward to a battle,

"Then, the winner is shino aburame" announced the proctor,

"Now scince naruto Uzumaki-uchiha-Namikaze is late he will be disquali-" Menma was cut off as suddenly the sky became dark,

Thunder roared, and a single flash of purple lightning struck the middle of the arena, and when the smoke cleared there were two very similar figures standing back to back, each holding a little orange book each,

"Sorry we're late, got lost in the path of life" said both of them in unison.
