*Shay POV*
The look on her face said it all. I thought I was finally going to make a friend. Sad, I know.
I honestly only kissed Aimee to help me forget that dream. It was so, so real. I woke up this morning expecting to meet my girlfriend at school but now she's a total stranger.
It was bizarre. I took her stargazing, (lame) and we talked about her family. I don't remember all she said about them but I remember feeling sad.
And now since I'm leaving tomorrow and I'll never get the chance to make things right.
*Sasha POV*
"Jay? Angie? I'm home!" I called. Oscar was amazing. He had a killer sense of humor. Not to mention he was kind of hot.
"Hey kid! How was your day?" Jay asked.
"Pretty great! I met this new kid named Oscar and had coffee with him this afternoon," I said happily.
"Sounds fun. Listen, Ang and I wanted to go out for dinner tonight, do you mind? You can have your friends over if you want," he asked. I loved that he valued my opinion.
"That sounds great! I'll go call Kiki." I gave him a quick hug and ran up the stairs.
As I was changing into my sweats, someone knocked on my door. Angie popped her head in.
"Can we talk for a sec?" she asked sadly.
Uh oh. Panic quickly arose in my chest as I sat next to her on my bed.
"You know how you were hanging out with Shay and becoming friends with him? Well I got a call from Maddie, his sister," I don't know how, but I recognized that name, "and their family is moving to New York tomorrow. Apparently their father got some crazy job offer and has to start next week. I'm sorry Sash," she said.
I just sat there numbly. "New York? Are you serious?"
"Yeah. I can't believe it myself," she said. We hugged and she got up and walked out.
I don't know why I felt so empty. I mean, I knew him for a day, but we had something going. I could tell.
I eventually called my girls. They were at my house in half an hour. We made popcorn and painted our nails while we watched Pitch Perfect. That movie solves all life's problems.
Psh, I wish.
Once it was over, we sat around and talked about Shay.I also told them about coffee with Oscar. They seemed to both like the sound of him. I told Kiki the dream and then both of them that he was moving.
We came up with three options:
1. Follow him to NYC like a creeper
2. Call him and tell him off
3. Forget about him and go out with Oscar again and see where that goes
We obviously decided that option 3 made most sense in the end.
Besides, I had already tried to text him earlier but his number had been disconnected so I guess the New York arrangement was permanent.
We talked til we laughed and laughed til we cried.
I'm pretty sure that's a line from a song, but you get the picture.
"So did you kiss?" Kiki asked.
"No! We just went out for coffee. Nothing more, yet," I added, waggling my eyebrows.
They laughed. "He sounds hot," Grace said.
"He is," I replied with a smirk.
We fell asleep a little later after that.
BEEP BEEP BE- Grace smacked my clock the next morning.
How was it only Thursday? I needed the weekend. Like now.
I checked my phone.
Unknown Number:
Yesterday was fun! See you at school pretty girl -Oscar
I smiled and saved his contact. The next message caused me to drop my phone and start to cry.
Unknown Number:
I am so, deeply sorry. xx
I knew immediately it was from Shay. He was the only person who texted the "xx" after a sentence.
"What just happened?!" Kiki screeched.
"Who did it?!" Grace growled and snatched my phone from me.
Her eyes lost the aggression and she showed Kiki. They picked me up of the floor and helped me get dressed. Kiki did my hair and Gracie did my makeup.
We had been walking for about a minute before Grace spoke.
"Well what are you going to do?" she asked me.
"I honestly don't know. I'm not going to reply, I'll just pretend I didn't see it I guess," I answered.
"Whatever you think is best, Sasha. We're here if you need us," Kiki said.
"You guys are the best friends anyone could ask for, you know that?" I said.
They looped arms with me as we approached the school.
"We know, Sash. We know."
We didn't have time to sit around and talk today so we went straight to first period. That means math, and that means Oscar.
I walked in quietly and sat down. He plunked down in his seat a few seconds later.
"Good morning," he said with his adorable grin. It was a quite infectious smile, so before long I found myself mirroring it.
"Good morning to you too," I replied.
"What are you doing after school today?"
"Nothing that I know of. What do you have planned?" I answered, knowing he must have something cooked up.
"My brother gets home from California today and we are having a cookout with some friends. Fancy joining me?" he asked.
"That sounds fun. What should I wear?" I said.
"I personally think you would look great in anything, but probably a sundress or something like that. Nothing too extravagant," he said.
I liked how he could just say those things with such ease. It was cute.
"I'm in."
"I'll pick you up at 5:00."
At lunch, Grace talked nonstop about Chase.
"I think I'm in love you guys, I really do!" she said dramatically.
Kiki rolled her big brown eyes. "That what you said about Simon, James, Tyler, and Brad, Gracie."
She scowled across the table at Kiki. "Whatever. I'll prove you guys wrong someday, you just wait."
I knew she was only joking, but part of me hoped she was serious.
Our writing class that afternoon was a complete bore. Without Shay, it wasn't something I looked forward too anymore. I'm so pathetic, I thought to myself. I knew this guy for a day and he spilled coffee on me. That not exactly a great impression. I took a deep breath.
This is the last time I will think about him, I vowed. This is the last time he will affect me in any way.
I exhaled my breath. I plastered a fake smile on my face and tried to participate but failed miserably.
