You know when you're having a really awesome dream, and then you get this insane falling sensation? Well, yesterday was a dream, and I just woke up.
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BE- I smacked my alarm clock. It wasn't real. None of it. I groaned.
It was bad enough that today was still Wednesday, but now I have to go to school and face Shay. I guess I still have plans with him this afternoon too. Ugh, this is like Groundhog Day.
I rolled out of bed and got dressed. This was bad. How was I going to face everybody today? I had a terrible poker face, Gracie and Kiki are going to know something's wrong. It was just so real.
I put little effort into my appearance and walked out the front door. As I walked, I tried to come up with a rational explanation for my dream. It was so vivid that it made it hard to believe I had made it all up, but I had.
You know what else? That means he doesn't know about my parents.
That means I still have my first kiss.
This is why I took creative writing, I could come up with the craziest things and put them on paper.
Grace met me at my locker on my request. Kiki was always late for school so I'd fill her in later.
We went to the cafeteria and sat down.
"Spill," Grace said, "Your text freaked me out. What's going on?" she asked me worriedly.
"I had this dream. It was so real Gracie, it was so real," I stressed, "It was about Shay..." I told her every single detail.
But the time I was done, her jaw was touching the floor.
"Whoa, Sasha. That's, interesting," she said.
"I know," I mumbled. I had my hands pressed up against my face and I groaned.
The bell rang, signaling my need to get to math.
"Love you Sash. Don't stress out okay? Wait, are you still seeing him after school?"
"Ugh, I don't even know now. I'll text you later."
"Okay! Bye," she called down the hallway.
I walked to math and took my usual seat. The girl who normally sat next to me had transferred schools so we were getting a new student soon. Turns out that "soon" was today.
"Hi, I'm Oscar Fitzgerald. You are?" the unfamiliar voice said.
I literally laughed out loud. Of course his name was Oscar. Instead of giving him a normal answer, I decided to be my awkward self.
"Are you gay by any chance?" I asked.
He looked appalled. "I'm sorry, what?"
"It's a yes or no question. Are you gay?" I asked again.
"No, I'm not. Sorry?" he said.
"It's alright. You just remind me of somebody, that's all," I covered.
"Alrighty then. You actually remind me of someone too," he said mischievously.
"Oh really? Who? Your ex girlfriend?" I joked.
"No, not really. You remind me of my next girlfriend," he said smugly.
My mouth opened in surprise. Before I could respond, class started. Oscar chuckled beside me.
We got to do partner work that day so he and I worked together.
"What kind of pickup line was that?" I hissed once we started working.
"The kind that makes you want to go out with me," he said simply.
"Are you always this cocky?" I snipped.
He looked thoughtful for a minute. "Yes. Yes, I am," he said.
I rolled my eyes. We worked quietly. I studied him while he was bent over checking my work.
"Are you checking me out?" he asked.
"No!" I said a bit too loudly because our teacher gave us a warning look, "No," I said again but softer this time.
"Seems to me like you were," he said in a sing-song voice. He had a really pretty smile. His eyes were bright green, and he had sandy brown hair that was short on his head.
"Oh my gosh, you are so full of yourself!" I growled. As much as I seemed to hate this, our playful banter was the highlight of my week. Sad, I know.
"Sasha, Sasha, Sasha. It's okay to love me, I know I'm pretty irresistible," he said with a wink.
I just shook my head. We ended up finishing early and talking at the end I class.
"Do you want to get a coffee with me after school? I think you do," Oscar said.
"As much as I wish I could, I have plans. Maybe tomorrow?" I said.
He nodded. "Tomorrow it is."
We went our separate ways down the hall. I hadn't seen Shay all morning, which was odd.
After lunch I made my way to creative writing. I was the third one in the room.
The other two were Aimee and Shay.
And they were kissing.
I dropped my binder on the floor which resulted in a loud noise. They broke away and looked at me.
"Sasha-" Shay started to say something but I walked to the other side of the room and took a different seat.
Ms. Styles was talking about some paper I needed to write but it would ask Nichole for the details later. I just stared off into space until the bell finally rang, releasing me from this hell.
I went straight to my locker and grabbed the things I would need for homework that night. As I was closing my locker door, I made my decision.
I walked right up to him and tapped his shoulder. He turned around and smiled at me.
"You know what? Coffee sounds great," I said to Oscar.
