Chapter 7 - An Unexpected Result

A few days after moving into Famille'.

I have no classes today, so I pass the time in my room.

(I'm bored~there's nothing to do...)

(Might as well take nap.)

When I woke up from some noise that's seems to be coming outside,

(What's that noise?)

Outside...

"Hm? That's odd..."

Following the direction of the sound, I emerge in the yard.

Raising my head, I see Miyoko on the roof of Famille'.

"Oh, Mina?"

"Wh-what are you doing up there?"

"Get down from there! It's dangerous!"

"Hehe, I'm fine."

"Actually, Mina you came at the perfect time."

Saying this, Miyoko comes down a ladder leaning against the roof.

"What's the matter?"

"Well..."

"Could you give me a hand."

"The thing is, the roofing tile is loose and seems about to come off."

"Nobody has been out in the yard recently, because they're afraid it might fall sooner or later."

On inquiry, I am told this share-house is around thirty years old.

There's still no problem with living here, but some parts are worse for wear.

"You should have told me earlier, am the man of the house you know and that kind of thing is kind of job,"

"Ain't you a bit presumptuous calling yourself the man of the house?"

"Presumptuous? Not at all, I am the only man living on this house after all."

"Well, you're not wrong...."

"Now, get down there and let me do my job,"

"Fine, I thought you might actually be able to do something about this."

"I remember when you first came here, you repaired that window with ease."

"Yeah, so why didn't you call me?"

"You we're sleeping and you seem tired I don't want to disturb you."

(Well , that's oddly considerate of her.)

I went up the roof as soon as she left.

"Hmn...this must be the spot, since all the tools are here."

(how is the roofing that she tried to fix?)

(Wh-what in tarnation?)

Clumsy would be an understatement to describe the area she had repaired.

(This looks like a primary school construction project!)

(Yet...)

I can feel her enthusiasm to help the others, emanating from the area she had mended.

(she must have tried really hard.)

"Mina! Does it look alright?"

"Yeah...you've done I fine job." (not really.)

"Great, Mina, you're quite manly!"

"I'm quite legitimately a man!"

I started to fix the ones he left behind and after a few minutes.

"Phew! That should about do it."

"I've also lathered on waterproof paint...I guess this should be fine for now."

It takes quite a while, but I manage to finish the repairs.

"Miyoko! I'm done!"

Placing my foot on the ladder I descend to the yard...

"Hey, Miyoko...?"

There, observing me carefully is, Kasumi and Yomiko.

(Owkey...why are they here?)

"Umm..."

(how long have they been standing here?)

(And where is Miyoko?)

(Well, this is awkward, the silence is killing me.)

"Umm...I'm sorry about the noise, did I disturb you guys?"

"Hey."

"Y-yes?"

"Did you fix the roof for us?"

"Y-yeah, sort of..."

"I see..."

"Th-thank you,I guess..." said Yomiko blushing lightly.

"The roofing tiles seemed like they were about to come off, we don't know when It would fall down, so we'd all been wary..." said Kasumi.

"It's a big help that you repaired it, thanks."

"Well, that's all we wanted to say."

"Y-you're welcome?"

(I was thanked...by Yomiko and Kasumi...huh, that's surprising.)

(this is the first time they've talked to me...)

Somehow...this small reward makes me feel extremely glad.

"Hey, Mina, did you finish the repairs?"

At that moment, Miyoko pops her heard out from the inside of the house.

"Where have you been?"

"I brought you a drink, Mina. Good job!"
