Chapter 29 - Fine with that?

"Really...I'm surprised. After going through the effort to make sure you two were alone."

"And you come home on your own."

"You really are an idiot..."

"Eh?! What?"

Ignoring my confusion, Raika continues on.

"Mina...didn't you actually want to stay with her?"

"Didn't you have fun today?"

Of course I had fun.

Going on different places with Miyoko, it was almost like a date...

It was almost like a dream...

"B-but Raika, didn't you send us off to check out places for our date?"

"Oh my god, you are an idiot?" she said with a palm on her face.

"No, checking out date spots...Was just an excuse so that you and Miyoko could be together alone."

"EH?!"

"Honestly..."

She quips and then laughs with exasperation.

"Both you and Miyoko are idiots..."

"Why can't both of you be more honest about your own feelings?"

"Mina..."

"Y-yes."

"The person you actually want to date, isn't me, is it?"

"W-well...."

For a moment, I see an image of Miyoko, on the verge of tears. Then, as if seeing through my thoughts, Raika giggles.

"It's written all over your face that it isn't me, you know?"

"B-but, she thinks we're better off as friends!"

The expression on Raika's face once again becomes stern.

"Do you honestly think so?"

"Huh?"

"Mina..."

"Could it be you're afraid if you confess your true feelings, it may ruin your current relationship with her?"

"That's why you're making an excuse that you would be better off as friends?!"

"To hide your true feelings."

"If you remain the way you are, you may end up hurting each other even more..."

I sincerely enjoy the time I send with Miyoko. I had thought that we wouldn't change and would stay this way forever.

"It's alright...Take your time to organize your feelings and then talk."

Countless thoughts swirl around my mind,

But I manage to squeeze out my words.

"It's true...I may have been afraid..."

"That if I tried to pursue a relationship beyond friendship..."

Hearing my answer, Raika gives me a bittersweet smile, of both satisfaction and sadness.

"Well, Mina, what do you want to do?" she continues.

(Well...of course, I want to be with Miyoko...)

"Mina..."

"How did you feel when you parted ways with Miyoko at the station?"

"S-sad..."

"Didn't Miyoko have a similar expression on her face?"

"OH..."

"She must have thought the same things you did."

"That's why you should go to her."

"I have confidence in you, Mina."

Raika's words give me the push I need. I take a deep breath and look at her.

"Raika..."

"Hm?"

"Thank you so much!!!"

"That'll be five thousand yen."

A small smiles spills across Raika's face.

"Just add it to my tab, and I'm sorry for involving you into this."

"It's alright. Don't worry about me."

Then.

"I'll tell you this now..."

Raika lets out a small sigh of resignation.

Then speaks in a cold voice, as if to push me away.

"I'm really not interested in you Mina."

"Even this time, I helped you on a whim."

"I know, you're just that kind Raika." I gave him a gentle smile.

"You don't need to thank, oh you knew, anyway just hurry, and go be with Miyoko."

Yes something in her expression...causes my chest to tighten.

(Still though, that's pretty cold of her, as if she's purposely trying to turn me against her...)

There are no limits to her elegancy.

"Mina? Why are you still here?"

"Oh right, I'm going."

Pushing me from behind, I rush out of the Famille'. In the end, I am almost certain I hear her whisper.

"Honestly...the trouble I go through for you..."
