I’m walking through the forest that I didn’t even know this lazy town had. I finally stop when I see Max lying on the floor.
“Enjoying a nap?”
“Ha ha very funny. Just help me out.” Mercy in his tone.
“Remind me again, how did this happen?” It’s Scarlet, “You were….chasing someone?” She gives him a questioning glance. It takes him about ten seconds to come up with a response.
“Yeah….I thought about how Emmy and Tracey were talking about alinces the other day so I decided I shouldn't take chances. If I see someone we could use or Kitsune could use I should ask….right?”
“Should we go after him?” At first I have to take a second to realize that Scarlets actually talking to me like I’m leader. Usually she ignores that part.
“No, he’s in Maxs’ class so Max can just talk to him tomorrow.”
“He might not be at school tomorrow.”
“Why?”
“He seems like the person who could slip out of things easily, plus the principal, for the most part lets him get away with it. Thanks Maddie.”
“No prob.”
She had moved the rock and helped Max slip out. I noticed as the others gathered around Maddie admiring her strength but Scarlet just stared out into the distance. I walked towards her, I looked, but didn’t see anything.
“Whats up? What do you see?”
“It's not what I see but what I feel. The boys gone yet I can feel his presence.”
“Maybe he dropped something?”
“Maybe….” She walked forward.
“Guys! See if you can find anything that could have possibly fell out of his backpack.”
The others journeyed out into the forest, searching for something they didn’t know. But I stayed, I found a comfy spot on a log to sit on and pulled out my phone. I went to contacts and found Emmys name.
Hope your jobs going well but we need you as soon as you can. Not an emergency but we need you to search a name in the school database if you can just do it they're and send it to me. Search the name Tom, he has black spiky hair and has math third period. Sorry, I know it's not much but it’s all we have, I’ll meet you they're as soon as I can. Thanks!
“And….send.”
“Hunter! We found something!”
“Coming!” I ran towards Angels voice and found them staring at a book that was titled ancient legends.
“Where’d he get this?!” Scarlet says stunned, “They're are very few copies of this book. It’s the book about us. About the keepers legend, about the Red Fox, about the Z Dragon, about the Z Crystals….”
“So this book has the history and everything?”
“Exactly correct….”
“Why would he have this?” Max asks, “Does that mean he's part of kitsunes team?”
“I’m afraid that's the only thing it could mean.” It was Tracy, Max screamed as she spoke.
“Jeez Trace you scared me! The other seemed startled as well. “Some day your going to give one of us a heart attack.” I look straight to Max as I says that, he just shrugged and gave a weak smile.
“We need Emmy,” She continued, “We need some background on this kid, he could lead us to Kitsune.”
“Or he could be the death of us!”
“Way to think positive Scarlet.”
“Listen, we all need to be on the look out for this Tom. Hunter text Emmy, tell her we insist her presence ASAP. For the rest of you, we should head back to H.Q and-” She was cut off by Scarlet.
“Take a look at this,” She showed us the parts that he bookmarked and highlighted. “It seems he’s interested in the Z Dragon and the Z Crystal. But why?”
“Those are two very bad combinations! We need to find him now! Change in plans, Hunter go get Emmy and hurry, Angel and Scarlet take to the skies and see if you can find anything important, Max and Maddison come with me. We need to get started on figuring out who exactly Tom is. Now go!”
I’m on my way!
Emmy job isn’t to far away. She works at a cemetery. Scary, depressing, yeah not my idea of a job. She’s not shoveling bodies six feet under, she’s growing a garden and planting flowers. She actually gets paid good money, probably because no one else wanted to work at the creepiest place on earth. The owners pretty nice though and Emmy seems to be enjoying her job. Tracy found it for her to keep people off her tail, figuratively and literally. She expects us to find a job too. Finally almost they're! Though I’m still a few feet away I can see him. The boy Max was rambling about. Tom.
