Birmingham
We had just got to Birmingham and I was so excited. I felt like a child on Christmas. Ryan was only doing the one show so we had a new guitarist called Mike. I hadn't met him yet but from his Instagram he was really good.
When we got to the venue I met Mike and he seemed really nice so I wasn't scared at all. Then I realised I might see my dad and Jax after six years. If Ryan knew my dad then I'm sure Brendon did too so I decided to ask.
"Brendon?" I asked.
"Yeah princess?" He replied putting his phone down and paying full attention to me.
"Did you know my dad too?"
"Yeah. Probably better than Ryan did. He was Spencer's older brothers best friend so he knew him the best. He was an avid musician and moved to Birmingham for university and that's where he met your mom. But then he found out she was pregnant and dropped out of university and payed full attention to Jax. Then a few years later she was pregnant with you. When you were born your mom died and he was devastated. He was a single father for a few years then he met Maria. She was nice then she became abusive and that's why your dad left for the army. We were in contact for all that time then he suddenly stopped answering. I got terrified so I contacted Spencer's brother who told me everything." I stayed silent still trying to process the situation. "You okay? Was it too much? Sorry."
"It's fine. My brain is just like having an information overload."
"Okay. Come on. We need to sound check."
Time skip
Some of the soldiers started filing in. These were the people who knew members of the band and that's when I spotted Jax. He walked over to Brendon so I walked over to Harley and tried to calm down. I had my back to them but I could hear every word.
"Is she okay?" Jax asked.
"Yeah. Just a bit scared. It's been 7 years." Brendon replied.
"Anyway it's good to see you."
"Yeah. Jax you've grown so much."
I started fiddling with the bracelets on my arm when Harley stopped me. "Just go talk to them." He said.
"It's not that easy." I replied.
"I'll come with you."
"Okay then." We went over to Brendon and I hugged Jax.
"Hey Ava. Long time so see." He said.
"Jax. It's been 6 years." I muttered pulling away. "Do you know where dad is?"
"He's in Iraq but he couldn't get here. Maybe I can text you when I find out he's coming home. Then you could come over."
"Yeah."
"Who's this?"
"This is my close friend Harley."
"Are you guys a thing?"
"No he has a girlfriend. Zoe. She's over there. I went to school with her."
"Oh. Anyway how you been? What's it like living with your idol?"
"It's been awesome. He's my dad now so it's not weird. At first it was but then after a while it got easier."
"That's awesome."
"How's your music going?"
"It's going alright. I haven't really had time since I have the army but when I'm back I play a lot."
"Do you remember the chords to our song?"
"Iris?"
"Yeah."
"How could I forget." I laughed and got Harley's acoustic guitar which was, for some reason, better than his old electric. "So. What key?"
"B minor." He started strumming and I sang along to the first verse.
And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
When it got to the chorus I walked over to Harley and pulled him over to sing with me. "Come on H."
"Fine." We sang the chorus together and he sang the second verse.
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later it's over
I just don't wanna miss you tonight
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's meant to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's meant to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's meant to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's meant to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
"Harley. You should sing more often." Zoe mentioned. She then went over to Harley and whispered, "you're way better than Ava." It was quiet but not quiet enough. I nodded taking in the comment and got the guitar from Jax. I shoved it in Harley's chest and walked away angrily.
"Ava!" Kayla shouted running after me. She followed me to the roof and sat on the edge with me. I smoked and tried to ignore the situation. We sat there for a solid five minutes before Kayla spoke up. "You know that was extremely snarky."
"Exactly." I replied. "She could've said 'no offence Ava but I think Harley's better than you' but no she had to whisper it in his ear and they're probably gonna make out in front of me later."
"Ava. Are you jealous?"
"No I like someone else."
"Who? Tell me!"
"Nope."
"Please."
"If you guess then I'll tell you." I knew she would never guess so I said that.
"Fine. Let's go back." I stamped on my blunt and we went back inside after I had some gum. "Sorry about that she just had a bit of a headache. She gets cranky when she had headaches." Not a complete lie.
"Hey you okay?" Brendon asked feeling my forehead. "God you're burning up."
"Yeah. I actually feel dizzy so I'm gonna go sit down back stage." I said walking off. Kayla followed me and realised something was actually wrong. Before I even made it out of the room I passed out.
