I woke up and was in a hospital bed. I sat up and looked around but no one was here. Then the door opened and Jax and Harley walked in. Harley sat on the chair in the corner ignoring me and Jax came over to me. He pulled me into a hug and I sobbed. I didn't know him that well and now he's gone. "He's really gone." I managed through sobs. "I wish I knew him. He was such a nice guy."
"He died in his sleep. At least he wasn't going through pain." Jax reassured. I nodded and he let go. Harley walked over and Jax left the room. I looked away from him but he hugged me.
"Look. You may have talked bad about Zoey but you're my best friend and I'm not gonna be mean when you just lost your dad. That's just horrible and I'm not like that. I'm sorry that he's gone. If you need me I'm here and I'm not going anywhere." He explained. I nodded and held onto him tightly.
"Do you know when I can go home?" I asked.
"They said when you wake up so now."
Time skip
We got home from Birmingham and I was falling apart. It was like when I found out my dad went MIA all over again except I was older and had a lot more going on.
When the plane landed, I found Brendon and he gave me the longest hug ever. I broke down at the funeral yesterday and now I was breaking again. I held onto him tightly realising how easy it was for me to lose him too. "Please don't leave me." I sobbed.
"Why would I leave you?" He asked letting go and bending down so I was eye level.
"I've lost everyone else."
"You still have Harley, Kayla and Jack."
"Two out of three. Harley and I had an argument."
"What about?"
"How his girlfriend's cheating on him but he won't listen."
"She's not cheating!" Harley exclaimed angrily.
"How long have you known her?" I asked turning to face him.
"A year."
"Exactly. I've know her since I was 9. Six years of watching her cheat on all her boyfriends."
"So what? She's changed."
"No. She hasn't. Is she still trying to get you in bed?"
"Yeah but-"
"Exactly. Nothing's changed at all. You know what maybe I will leave the band. You're making my decision so much easier."
"Wait Av-"
"Save it. Dad can we go?"
"Yeah come on." He added. We went to the car and Brendon put metal music on knowing I was in one of those moods.
"I just don't understand why he won't listen to me. I know what she's like." I explained.
"He's just a stupid boy. He's to blinded by her. If you don't get through to him he's a goner."
"I have a plan."
"Which is?"
"I'm gonna get close to Zoey again and make her admit."
"So you're gonna help her build up her ego to knock it down? That's... a great idea."
"Thanks dad." I flinch every time I say that word.
Dad.
I'm so sad he's gone but Brendon is the best replacement I could've had. Yet I'm always gonna wish I knew him. If I did I wouldn't be where I am right now and I have to admit that it was pretty good. Well... apart from the Harley situation and the solo career confusion.
"Were you serious when you said you might leave the band?" Brendon asked breaking my chain of thought.
"I don't know. I'm gonna release the song and see how that goes then decide. The only thing that argument confirmed is that I'm getting that song released soon." I explained. "If the song goes good then I'm gonna leave temporarily."
"Okay. Just don't do something you'll regret. I'll support you no matter what. I'm your number one fan." I nodded and looked out the window.
October
I got dressed and did my hair then went downstairs to Sarah. "Ready to go?" She asked.
"Yeah. Bye dad!" I exclaimed.
"See you later. Are you gonna record some more songs?" Brendon asked.
"Yeah probably."
"I'll meet you in the studio when you get back."
"Okay. Let's go." We got in the car and Sarah turned to me.
"It's Harley's birthday next week. What are you gonna get him?" She asked.
"I don't know. We're not exactly on good terms." I replied.
You're all probably really confused. Yes the plan with Zoey went well but now he's still mad at me. We haven't spoken in about a month. The tour's over so were all back home. I recorded a few songs and I've released three now called Six Feet Under, Ocean Eyes and Bellyache which all went amazing. I still have to write about four more songs and I have no clue where to start.
I've been trying to call Harley for the past week but I don't know what to say. Whenever I try the words wont come out so he's got a bunch of voicemails that are just utter rubbish.
We got to the mall and went in a few shops then I went into hot topic. I bought a few hoodies then found Dead Roses merch. It was so nostalgic. People didn't know I'd left the band yet so they all thought it was just a side project.
I decided to buy it because why not buy my own merch. I went up to the register and that's when I got recognised. "Oh my god! You're Ava-Jay Urie from Dead Roses." The lady at the cash register said happily.
"Sh. I just thought I'd but some hoodies because I can never have enough. Then I saw this and was like hey why not buy my own merch." I explained. She laughed which made me smile.
"Can I get a picture?"
"Sure!" We got a picture then I paid for my stuff. "Thank you." I walked out and Sarah was there with Jenna and Tyler. "Jenna! Ty!" I ran over and hugged them. "I haven't seen you in ages."
"We just wanted to get some clothes for the awards show." Tyler mentioned.
"Oh god I gotta to." I added.
"Come on then. We can go together."
Back home
I was sat on my bed thinking of ways to record this voicemail. Scanning my room for ideas my eyes landed on my ukulele. The only way I can ever get my words out is if I sing it. I grabbed it and put together a quick progression then called him. "Hey leave a message." Harley voicemail said. It was his voice so I paused for a second then started singing.
"Hey. Call me back. When you get this. Or if you've got a minute. We really need to talk. Wait you know what maybe just forget it. Cause by the time you get this. Your number might be blocked. Stay. And blah blah blah. You just want what you can't have. No way. I'll call the cops. And if you stop I'll call your dad." I sang. The voicemail ended and I sighed in relief. Wait. That's a pretty good song. I grabbed my notebook and the words just flowed right out of me.
