To Whoever Opens This,

Hey there, random stranger!

My name's Anna, and if you're reading this, it means my drunken mistake has officially made its way into the hands of someone who probably wasn't expecting it. So, um... surprise?

Let me explain. My friend Jass dared me to write a letter to a complete stranger, convinced that somehow, this would lead me to my soulmate. I know—it sounds ridiculous. I told her it was the dumbest idea I'd ever heard. But unfortunately, I was a few drinks in when she suggested it, and my ability to say no had mysteriously vanished. So here I am, making good on a promise I barely remember agreeing to and embarrassing myself in the process.

Not exactly how I pictured my love story beginning.

Your (probably regretting this already) pen pal,
Anna

With a sigh, I sealed the envelope, pressed a quick kiss to the back—leaving an accidental lipstick mark—and dropped it into my old mailbox. The second the door shut behind me, I grabbed my phone and sent a text.

"Happy now? I did it. Officially made a fool of myself."

"OMG! You actually sent it?! So proud of you. Just wait—your future boyfriend is on the way, trust me."

"Sure. And while we're at it, let's expect cats and dogs to fall from the sky. Nothing's gonna happen, Jass."

"Just give it time. I have a good feeling about this."

"Mhm. Keep dreaming. Anyway, I've got work to get ready for. Talk later."

I tossed my phone onto the bed and let out a dramatic sigh. Jass was delusional, but I had to admit—some tiny, ridiculous part of me wondered. What if?

I shook my head. Nope. Not happening.

With that, I pushed the whole thing out of my mind, got dressed, and headed off to work, leaving my fate (and my letter) in the hands of the universe.
