Kaycee Rice's POV

My locker

"Guess what?!" Gabe said excited meaning he has gossip

"What's up?"

"I just found out your best friend got a date!" Gabe said as if I should be happy

"Who Tahani?"

"No"

"Julian?"

"Nope"

"Bailey?"

"Your BEST friend" Gabe said but I knew who he meant I just refuse to believe it

"Sean..."

"Yep he's going on a date with this girl named Tate and oh my she's like insanely pretty, she's like-" Gabe said until I glared at him "I mean nowhere near as pretty as you babe"

"Where did you hear this from?"

"That one gossip girl Tati," he said which makes sense as Tati gets the dirt on everyone "Why aren't you happy? I thought you of all people would be excited for your best friend"

"...I'm really happy for him" I strained out

"You're lying" Gabe points out

"No, I'm not!"

"What happened last night?" he asked

"Sean came over and we... talked..." I said as I haven't told anyone what happened last night but I'm pretty sure Sean told or will tell the squad

"mmm he needs to stop coming over," Gabe said

"What?"

"Yeah, I don't like him over there without your siblings or parents there," he said being overprotective and jealous again

"Gabe, Sean has been in my house since he was 5 he knows it better than I do sometimes"

"It's not about the house it's what you do inside of it"

"Like..."

"Lov-"

"No, don't you dare finish that sentence" as he was going to imply a bunch of inappropriate stuff

"... okay but I know somethings up with you two" Gabe said as he left to catch his ride

Tahani then approached me

"You ready to admit it?" She asked me

"Admit what?"

"You still love your best friend," Tahani said as I recalled the first time she learned of it

Flashback

The day after Sean left for China

"Tahani!!!!" I said over the phone.

"What's wrong?!" She said concerned

"I miss Sean!!!!"

"Girl don't call me over this" Tahani said obviously annoyed I called her

"Sorry, what should I do? I miss him so much it hurts"

"Kaycee, do you love Sean?" Tahani asked me probably based off my tone

"Yes" I admitted

"I knew it!"

"But I know he doesn't love me back..."

"...You don't know that!"

"Yes, I do, remember when he called me a weirdo that's not something you tell someone you like"

"Kaycee, you ate a worm after Julian pranked you thinking it was a gummy worm, everyone called you disgusting" Tahani said "Your parents called you disgusting, I called you disgusting, so Sean saying weirdo is not that bad"

"I'm just saying it can't be healthy loving your best friend secretly for years"

"It's not, but just have hope Kaycee," Tahani said

"He'll never love me in that way, I should just be with someone else..."

Flashback end

"I'm with Gabe"

"Because you needed to move on not because you thought Gabe was charming or anything like that" Tahani said

"...I tell you too much"

"Maybe but I would have figured it out eventually," She said "I call you and Sean obvious and oblivious"

"I guess Sean is oblivious," I said as he never noticed my feelings

"Sure, why not," Tahani said "Just remember Sean is here you don't need your comfort pillow or should I say comfort Gabe anymore"

"He's not my comfort pillow!"

"Kaycee, everyone was busy this summer, you needed someone because we weren't there for you," Tahani said "No one would be mad if you just explained that"

"I got to go"

I luckily caught the bus despite my long conversations with Gabe and Tahani and like usual I'm sitting next to Sean but he wasn't talking to me just on his phone texting and listening to music, and from my peeping, he was texting Josh and Julian

The ride was long and silent, he clearly didn't want to speak with me so I didn't speak to him

We had the same stop so we both got out and walked to our houses which were right next door...

"Goodnight Sean..." I tried saying but he kept walking, on his phone listening to music to his house

I really messed up

Sean Lew's POV

Josh was right about confessing but he was also right in that this was not the right time

I look over to see Kaycee enter her house with her head down, it's a bad habit of me wanting to make sure she gets home safely and she didn't forget her key or something which she has done before
