Monday

Sean's POV

The bus ride to school

"So, for game night I was thinking of having it with friends again but this time it'll be at your place as I'm tired of cleaning my place all the time since you don't like cleaning the garage and such" Kaycee said to me

"Sure"

"You ok?"

"Yeah, I'm fine, are you ok?"

"Yeah never better, I mean it could be perfect but I'm happy," Kaycee said "selfie!"

She took a random picture of us, she almost never does that... is she really ok?

"Look I know the desire for things to be normal but you don't have to-"

"Sean I'm fine really," she said

"It's fine not to be"

"I know," Kaycee said texting on her phone

"Just being sure"

"And I love you for that," Kaycee said

I don't even know what's going on anymore

"Sean, do you love me yet?" She asked me

Oh

"Kaycee-"

"Not yet, that's fine I can wait," Kaycee said returning to her phone

I didn't reject her

I didn't say anything...

and she knows I don't love Tati so now she's thinking it's just a matter of time before those feelings come back and I say I love you back

If they come back...

Kaycee Rice's POV

Lunch

Julian was animatedly chatting with Chloe

Tahani, Bailey, Josh, and I were just eating as we wait for Sean

Sean and Tati sat down and my mood instantly dropped

"Hey, guys!" Tati greeted everyone who mostly ignored her "Oh Sean and I aren't dating anymore"

"You should have led with that! Hi Tati" I said as my mood improved greatly

Maybe me confessing, did it?!

"You guys talking about anything?" Tati asked us

"I was going to ask since I'm officially a part of the squad as you all call it," Josh said as I rest my head on his shoulder showing no more bad energy between us "How did you all meet?"

"Right before lunch last year first semester was the only class Sean and Kaycee didn't have together," Bailey said

"So, Kaycee was in class with me, and Bailey and Julian was with Sean and since they were separated we became their friends over time," Tahani said

"Then Bailey and I met Tahani and Kaycee when we all had lunch together for the first time about a week in" Julian finished

"Cool, so what about the original duo?" Josh asked about Sean and me

"Yeah, I'm curious myself," Tati said

"We've never actually asked you two how you met" Bailey added

"So how did you two meet? I'm guessing your families set it up" Julian said

"Actually..." I said as Sean and I shared a look as I begin to tell the story

Flashback

Age: 5 years' old

"Sorry Kaycee we can't play with you today we have dance class" Kylie my older sister said

"But what am I going to do by myself?"

"Hey play with your new toy ball" Devon my older brother said as he passed me his old bounce ball

"We'll be back in a few hours, dad should be back before us ok," my mom said giving me a quick kiss as the got in the car

"Ok..."

They drove off and I just sat on the steps of our front door tossing the ball in my hands repeatedly

I look over and I see my neighbor playing with some jump rope

In my distraction, the ball rolled out of my hand and into the street

I run over to pick it up and in my clumsiness, I tripped and scraped my knee on the concrete

It hurt so bad, I couldn't help but scream out in pain "OW!!!!!!"

"Are you okay?" A high-pitched voice asked me

"I hurt my knee!"

"Let me help," they said as they squatted down in front of me "piggyback ride"

"Ok..." I said as I crawl onto their back

"I'm Sean by the way," he said giving me a smile

"Kaycee"

Flashback end

"That's so cute!" Tahani said

"Then what she doesn't tell you is that when I brought her back to her place I was trying to take care of her and she gave me her toy doctor set instead of actual Band-Aids and stuff" Sean said as I feel embarrassed for my younger self "She still has the mark from that scrape since it didn't get treated to correctly until her dad came home"

"The next day I came over with candy as a thank you and ever since then we became best friends," I said

"Yeah she would then come over every day to play so it was hard to get rid of her" Sean joked as I hit him "But yeah that's how we met and became friends"

"Yep he's my day one"

"Does that suffice Josh?" Sean asked the person who brought it up

"Hmm? Yeah sure, you could have just said he helped you when you fell when you were kids, I didn't need you to tell the whole story" Josh said as he stopped paying attention and was on his phone

"Ignore him, he loved the story," Bailey said

"And then you fell in love with him" Tahani whispered to me

"Stop!"

"Yeah I don't know how you can be best friends with the love of your life" Tati added

"It's complicated"
