Bryson
"Good for you Bryson. That was a good move from you." Estelle said from behind me. I gripped my fists and clenched my jaw. I couldn't believe the nerve of that family.
Hera was my future wife. I could do whatever the hell I wanted with her. I wanted to take her away from everyone that was going to pose as a threat to her and I was going to make sure that she never cried again.
"You know what I think... I think that Blade is being selfish. Hera is your fiancée so you should be the one to comfort her and decide how she should mourn. And I think that you chose right by making her leave. Seeing that family would only break her even more. I know Hera. She has the softest heart in the world. So seeing that family would crush her heart. And then what? How on earth would you marry someone with a crushed heart? She'll be a corpse of her former self. A zombie. You are trying to prevent that and you are doing a good job, Bryson. You know what's good for her. More than what Blade, Bullet and even Claudia knew."
I turned around to face Estelle and saw that she was looking at Hera with sympathetic eyes. Estelle seemed to be the only one in that family that was actually worried about Hera. Everyone seemed to care about Claudia, who was already dead.
"How close was she to that woman?" I asked in a low tone, wanting to know how much damage had been done.
"Oh no, you don't even know the half. Hera and Claudia were like Ying and Yang. Claudia made sure of it. See... Claudia saw her former self in Hera so she made sure to raise Hera in a way that made sure that she was attached to her. Latched onto her. I believe that it was only because she actually felt like a human around Hera. Whenever she did something that ate her up inside, she ran to Hera to relieve the guilt. That's why she never regretted anything in her entire life. Hera was there to be her pillar of strength. When my brother kidnapped Hera, I saw that woman almost die. Trust me, I was elated. I couldn't wait for all my problems to be solved after Claudia would be laid to rest, but the stubborn goat didn't want to stay down. She got back up, because she's so stubborn, and saved Hera who ended up betraying her. You know what I thought after she did that? I was like, 'good for you Hera, you deserved a better mother than that'. But Hera proved to us all just how much she was such a goodhearted person by confessing that she only betrayed Claudia just to save Charles. The poor thing was almost disowned, but I knew that out of all of Claudia's ghastly offspring, Hera was the golden child. I knew that I could trust her as much as I could trust myself. She is, of course, my brother's child."
"So this..." I pointed to Hera who didn't flinch from her spot, "... is Claudia's fault?" I asked.
"Absolutely. No-one else can do so much damage except that stupid homewrecker. She killed my entire family, you know?"
"What?" I snapped back at Estelle, but she didn't flinch. She had a strong character.
"My mother, father and now brother died because of that witch. I watched my entire family crumble before my eyes and I couldn't anything about it since I knew that Claudia would come for me if I tried. Hera and her siblings are all I have left since they are Charles' children."
"She did that?" I asked in disbelief.
"That and more. Claudia killed her own father. If that's not evil, then I don't know what is. You can only imagine what that family is capable of now. You saw just how close to her they are. That family depended on Claudia more than they depended on oxygen. You can only imagine the influence Claudia had on them. Giving Hera to them will only destroy her. You need to go with her, now. Before Blade comes back with reinforcements. The entire family! And the grandmother... Sarah, she fights with Jesus, just a fair warning."
I ran to Hera's side and she immediately held my hands in hers. Her hands were cold and shaky and her face was colourless and lifeless. I'd save her.
"Damien, get me an apartment in Berlin. Get me everything I'll need. Car. Money. Food. Even some clothes for both me and Hera. I'm not going back to that house to pack for her. Do it now, I want to leave this country in an hour." I growled at my cousin and he immediately moved.
After an hour of waiting with Estelle and her telling me in detail what Claudia did, had been doing and had already done to her family and to Hera, Damien returned in a rush.
"Everything's ready now..."
"... good..."
"... but Bryson, aunt is on the line again."
I grunted loudly while taking the phone from him and answering gruffly. Of all the times to call, now just wasn't it. I walked out of the room and closed the door behind me.
"What the fuck?! Where the fuck are you going with that litt..."
"... I'm going to advise you to refrain from saying anything offensive about my fiancée." I bluntly warned her.
"You weren't even supposed to marry her! You were supposed to make her fall in love with you and then use her to get to Claudia to get to the Mafia!"
"News flash, mother, Claudia King is dead. Along with her husband."
"What?!" She exclaimed with a hoarse voice.
"Which is why we're leaving. I want her to grieve alone so that she can get over the pain faster. No matter what you say, mother, you can't stop me from leaving."
"Are you defying me?"
"Pearl did it." I said a low blow and she gasped from shock. I was angry and over the edge of madness. She was posing as an obstacle and even though she was my mother, I was going to destroy her for trying to stop me. I loved Hera.
"How dare you?" She asked in a whisper.
"Pearl left. I'm leaving. That should send some type of signal into your head about what type of a mother you are. Using your son for your own selfish needs is extremely stupid of you."
"Don't insult me!"
"Don't contact me." I gritted.
"What about the King family? What about the Genaro family? You're leaving it all behind for that girl?"
"I really don't care what you do to the Kings. You can take them over for all I care. Blade and Bullet look like they know something about the Mafia they're in. Torture it out of them, just leave me out. I have my wife to care about."
"You're not even married to her yet!"
"Who asked you?"
I heard my mother gasp, but I was done listening to her yap about how rude she found me. Maureen talked too much for her own good.
"You better come back!" She yelled at me and I only chuckled.
"You'll draw me coming back because I'm not planning to return anytime soon." I deadpanned and then hung up angrily.
Walking back in, I grabbed my fragile woman, bridal style, and walked out, following Damien in front of me.
"Where are we going?" Hera asked me with a soft and broken tone. I looked down at her and held her even closer to me.
"Somewhere where you'll be safe and happy again."
