"No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No..."
"Would you just shut up already?!" Bhavani barked at me while I kept denying that Claudia was dead. Claudia couldn't be dead, she was safe and sound with Charles.
"I'm stressed out too!" I barked back at my wife.
"Then shut up!"
"But she's dead!"
"SHE'S NOT DEAD!" Bhavani screamed with tears in her eyes and smashed her glass of water against the wall behind me. She was aiming at me and if I hadn't shifted, it would've hit its target perfectly.
"Calm down!" I screamed at her from shock.
Bhavani wasn't like this. Even in the most stressful situations, she knew how to keep her composure in check. Seeing her lose her mind like this wasn't normal for me.
"She's not dead! She's not dead! Claudia..." Bhavani huffed out and fell onto the floor helplessly, "... is not dead." Bhavani began to cry.
This was what I was trying to avoid. Bhavani and her tears. She was my wife and I couldn't stand to see her cry so much. I couldn't blame her because other than me and the girls, Claudia was all she had. Claudia picked her up, dusted her off and gave her a second chance at life. I didn't blame her for not wanting to let her go.
"The reports say otherwise." I said coldly. I wasn't trying to cause more heartbreak but I just wanted her to come to terms with it so that the crying would stop. Consoling her would only remind her of her ultimate grief.
"Shut up!" Bhavani screamed at me.
"You saw it yourself. A private fucking investigator doesn't lie!"
"Don't say that!"
"The fire destroyed them and turned them to ashes and bones. Both Claudia and Charles are gone. There is proof."
"What if it's not them?" Bhavani cried.
"But you and I both know that it is. Why on earth would Claudia fake her own death? We need her and she knows it. Why would she leave her kids like that? She's dead, Bhavani, accept it."
"Have you already accepted it?"
I thought about it for a while. Accepting that Claudia was dead was basically like giving up on her. I couldn't give up on Queen Claudia King because if I did, her memory would haunt me. But at the same time, we had the proof staring us straight in the eye.
The fire was started from the fireplace which caught a piece of the curtain. That set the whole beach house on fire with Claudia and Charles in it sleeping. By the time they woke, it was too late. The whole building collapsed on them while in flames and devoured them. The fire was all over the news worldwide and news of her death had already reached places in Australia. It was only a matter of time before Sarah, Charlene and Cynthia would call me to confirm.
The news wasn't focused on the fact that she died in a house in flames but at the fact that she died in the arms of her lover. All they wanted to know was who the mystery man was. Little did they know that he was the same man who 'died' peacefully in a prison cell five years ago. Queen Claudia King's husband, the notorious Charles King.
