Hera

Bryson got back up onto his feet and trailed his arm around my waist again. Pearl walked into the room slowly, her baby bump bulging out of her white blouse, and Damien ran to hug her.

I took a moment to look at the fake Pearl who my father murdered. She was Alfonsi's nephew's French ex-wife who we put into surgery to make her look like Pearl. She may have been a terrible person, but she didn't deserve to die like that.

"What's happening here?" Blade asked angrily and I looked at him. He looked horrible and almost sickly.

"We pretended to be dead to scare my mother. It was all part of the plan." Bryson answered coldly.

"And her?" Bullet pointed at the dead girl on the floor. "Who is she?"

"A waste of oxygen and now... a former thorn in my ass." Alfonsi chimed. "Where's Mona? I'm craving butter biscuits."

"Seriously Alfonsi?" Bullet deadpanned.

I noticed that the entire family was staring at me, making me squirm against Bryson.

I didn't know if it was because I was walking on my own two feet now. They had seen me on a wheelchair for so long that they weren't used to me walking. I didn't blame them because even I found it weird. When I finally stood up, I realised just how long my legs were. It was so weird taking my first step that I had to crawl for at least two weeks. It took a while to get used to, but I eventually got used to it.

Or maybe it was because I was married now. I was sure they had seen the diamond on my finger. Bryson made sure to buy the biggest and brightest when we were in Dubai. Our wedding ceremony was small and intimate and our wedding night was indescribable.

Whatever it was that scared them or made them speechless about me made me want to explain it to them so that they wouldn't get confused or anything.

"Hera? Where have you been?" My grandmother, Sarah, asked me with tears in her eyes.

"We needed you and you just decided to leave without so much as a goodbye." My aunt Cynthia added sadly.

I knew this would happen and this was what I was trying to avoid. I knew that something bad was happening and I knew that I had to go back, but each time I brought up the topic of going back, Bryson shut me down.

"It wasn't my intention, I promise." I said with tears in my eyes.

Everyone looked at me sadly and this reminded me of five years ago, when everyone was upset with me for turning my back on my mother. But just like then, I only did it out of the goodness of my heart.

"I wanted to come back. Not one day went by without me wanting to come here and to be with you. Each time I spoke with Bryson about coming back, he told me we were safer away from this place. I wanted to know why so I pestered him. Until one day when he was about to tell me that... that... Zeus died."

The whole room broke into tears and Bryson's grip on my waist tightened. Everyone still looked horribly affected by the family's large loss and everyone wished that each person who died at the hands of Maureen could come back.

"My mother and father showed up at our doorstep and told me everything. I was shattered." I cried. "But they told me to wait. They told me to stick to the plan. They told me to wait for the right time. I did as told because I knew that me coming here would make it even harder for my parents to reveal themselves. I didn't mean to hurt any of you guys and I blame myself everyday for my brother's dead. And Hilary... she didn't deserve to die so soon."

I meant that. I had become so close to her, she was my best friend. I loved her. She was like my sister. Hillary deserved the world and more, not what she got instead.

Bryson held on even tighter and I broke down in his arms. Bryson suddenly pulled away from me, which wasn't something he'd usually do, but I felt someone else hold me in their arms.

"Don't cry, Hera. It's not your fault. You didn't know what was happening here." Blade whispered into my ears while hugging me and I continued to cry.

"Lord. Thank you for answering my prayers. Our family is safe. At last." I heard my grandmother say breathlessly and I pulled away from Blade and he kissed me on my forehead. "I'm angry at you for not inviting me to your wedding though." We all chuckled and I whispered my sorry.

I walked to each relative and held them in my arms. I introduced Pearl to the family and met Elaine. We were all together again. We weren't a complete family, but I was happy that we were all safe.

"When did you start walking again?" Bhavani asked me as I hugged her.

"Bryson and I spent the entire three months getting my legs to work. We started with different physiotherapists in Berlin and then made our way to Barcelona, Dubai and even Denmark. There was no way these legs weren't going to work again."

"Well, I'm happy for you." I thanked Bhavani and she chuckled in my arms.

Once I held Mary in my arms, all of her pain transferred to me. I could only imagine how broken she was to have lost her little brother and mother. Mary was a strong person so seeing her cry so miserably in my arms made me feel so much more hurt.

"I'm so sorry." I said with a strained voice.

"Me too." She answered, referring to Zeus and Hilary.

Tanu and Bani were a bit shaken, but relieved nevertheless. Ayurv was happy for me and Bryson. Alex was still a bit distant, but happy to see me again. Lizzy was such a joy to see. Charmoné and Kaylie were healthy and happy that everything would be fine again. Noah and Demi were relieved to be alive and together again. Lexi looked a bit sad without Poseidon, but she didn't have to worry because Estelle and the rest of the family were coming back soon, or atleast that was what my mother said.

My mother seemed unfazed at the sound of my brother's murder. She was the one making plans. She was the one who thought of finding Pearl, contacting Alfonsi, pretending that the fire had killed them. We still didn't know who caused it, but I assumed it was Maureen. My mother assured me I was wrong, which made my stomach churn. She had too many enemies, and that worried me.

Looking at my family hugging and rejoicing, I was relieved and guilty at the same time.

They were free, but also had to be held under captivity because of me. It wasn't my fault but I couldn't shake off the reality that I could've saved them. It was all in the past now. Everyone would be happy again.

"What's going to happen to Maureen?" Aunt Cynthia asked all of a sudden.

"Don't worry about that. That's Claudia's thing to worry about." Blade answered.

"Will she kill my mother?" Pearl asked sadly.

I could tell that even though she didn't agree with her mother, Pearl still cared about her. I didn't blame her. I understood exactly how she was feeling because that was how I felt with my own mother.

"Truth be told, I doubt Maureen is still alive right now." Blade answered truthfully and no matter how inhumane it sounded, the entire King family could agree.
