There was no light, only the one that entered from the street.
"It's a good thing we have a full moon today, if not ...", thought Arthit as he walked through worm-eaten furniture and chairs covered by dirty white sheets.
His gaze then fell on a door that led to a staircase that, shining slightly in the darkness, led to the basement of the old mansion.
Finally!
With great care the young man began to go down the stairs, step by step.
- "At least they could have put a railing that would not wobble" - Arthit muttered while frowning.
Finally, when a few minutes later he reached the basement of the house, his expression changed in seconds.
He just could not believe what he was seeing.
Before him, several cushions were put on large tables and, on them, hundreds of cats were lying.
All of them completely asleep.
- "This is going to be more difficult than I thought" - Arthit muttered as he started to walk towards them.
Knott had assured him that he would know which one was his.
That he would not need more than a glance.
But...
They were too many!
What if he was wrong? He did not even want to imagine being tied for life to a familiar that is not yours.
That would be torture.
It was then that a slight meowing made him turn around to a corner of the room.
There, lying on a white blanket, there was a cat that was watching him with its huge clear eyes.
"How strange ...", thought Arthit as he approached the poor animal that, obviously, had not been captured without first giving a fierce fight, "I thought I knew all the types of cats that exist in this world ..."
The animal, which had not stopped looking at him, tried to get up without much success.
Arthit, seeing the trembling legs of the cat and, above all, the dried blood stains that he had on his fur, bent down and opened his arms slowly.
- "Do you want to come with me?" - He said before even realizing what he was doing - "I promise to take care of you and love you forever".
The animal tilted its head slightly to the side to finally nod calmly.
- "Ok, I'm going to take you in my arms ... do not bite me or scratch me, pleease" - Arthit murmured as he felt his heart begin to beat violently fast.
A few minutes later he had the little animal in his arms and with his head resting on his chest.
With a slight smile, the young magician turned and headed towards the exit of the house.
Without looking back once.
