After leaving London with their rental car, they headed up north towards York where they had booked a hotel for three nights. They made a few detours during their trip, because they wanted to see as much of the countryside as possible.
"Who wants to drive the next leg?" Avi, who had been driving the whole morning, asked as they returned to the car in a little village along the way, where they had had a late lunch.
"Can I pass? I don't know if I am quite comfortable with driving on the left..." Scott said. "Sorry..." Maybe I'll try once we're somewhere with not as much traffic, okay?"
"I get that" Avi said with a smile on his face. "But let me tell you, it's not too bad, you get used to it rather quickly."
"I would like to try" Mitch then spoke up. "It cannot be that hard..."
"It's weird at first" Avi said as he handed Mitch the keys.
"Thanks for the encouragement" Mitch joked back as he got into the car and adjusted his seat and the mirrors.
"You're welcome" Avi joked as he got comfortable in the passenger seat. "Now... do you want pointers or shall I stay quiet?"
"Errm... pointers please? Just remind me of the left-hand traffic, okay?" Mitch said. "Okay, now... everyone buckled up? Next stop is York!"
"Buckled up and ready for the ride" Scott called from the back seat. "Take us there, Dear."
Mitch steered the car back on the street carefully. At first he had a hard time keeping in mind that he had to drive on the left side, but with every mile it got easier and soon, he parked the car in the garage below their pension in York.
"Okay..." Avi said as they went inside with their luggage. "We've got only one room here, but it's a small suite with a king sized bed and a little living room area."
"Sounds cosy" Mitch quipped.
"Yeah" Scott added.
Together, they walked up to the reception, where a middle aged man was working at his computer. He looked up as soon as he noticed the triad.
"Hello and welcome to the Churchs Inn, I'm Kenneth. How can I help you?"
"Good afternoon Kenneth, I'm Avriel Kaplan. I booked a room for three nights" Avi greeted back.
Kenneth nodded. "Yes of course, Mr Kaplan. You're from the States, right?"
"Yes, we are" Avi said. "All the way from California."
"And you chose the rainy England for your vacation? That's interesting" Kenneth joked while he pulled up the reservation on his computer.
"Well, we wanted a change of scenery" Avi joked back.
Kenneth chuckled. "I get that... all the sun must be cruel" he returned, looking up at Avi again. "So you booked three nights in the suite together with breakfast."
"That's right."
"I was just a little confused, because you wrote a comment saying that you'd like three people to stay in the suite?" Kenneth asked. "Because there's only one bedroom..."
"Oh yes, we know. And it's all we need" Avi replied. "A third set of pillow and blanket would be great, but apart from that we're very comfortable with sharing..."
"Oh" Kenneth said and realisation was evident in his face. "You're... in a relationship?"
"Yes" Avi said with a smile on his face. "Which is why we only need the suite, but everything else for three."
