Back at home, Mitch and Avi were greeted by Scott, who had just arrived as well.
"Hi, up for some cake as a midnight snack?" The blonde asked after they had exchanged soft kisses.
"Why not... we burned enough calories on that dance" Mitch stated, which caused Scott to roll his eyes playfully.
"Yeah right, queen..."
"I want some cake" Avi intervened. "Not too much, because bedtime, but I need something sweet."
"Something sweet for our sweethearts" Scott said and opened the fridge. "Okay, she gave me some of the chocolate cake, some lemon yoghurt cake and strawberries and cream cake."
"Can I just have a taste of all of them?" Mitch wanted to know.
"Agreed" Avi said. "Maybe we can share?"
"You'll have to share, there wasn't that much left, after all it was just a means to try them" Scott explained as he took out the plate and grabbed two forks. "Here you go. How was your dance by the way?"
"You first, I doubt we can talk right now" Mitch said as he took a fork full of the chocolate cake.
"Oh it was fun as always" Scott began. "Kirstie was a bit overwhelmed with the wedding coming up and everything, so we talked about it and I reassured her. She even thought of herself as bridezilla, which is so not true. Yeah and then we watched a movie and just had a comfy night in with the puppies and everything..."
"She is not bridezilla" Mitch replied, his mouth still full of cake. "She's far from it, actually."
"Exactly" Scott agrees. "I mean she's getting more and more excited and of course she wants everything to be perfect, but when you reassure her that everything is going to be ok, she stops..."
"And she has a reason to be excited" Avi finally spoke up. "She gets to be with the love of her life forever..."
There was something in Avi's voice, Mitch didn't recognise. But he knew immediately that his boyfriend wasn't exactly fine. "Avi, you get to be with the loves of your life forever, too..." he said softly, testing the waters.
The bearded man sighed softly. "I know and it means everything to me" he said. "But I just want to..."
"Me too, to be honest" Mitch replied. "I mean, I am happy with you. More than that, actually. And even though I'd love to have the whole package, propose or be proposed to, have a beautiful wedding, a honeymoon, I gladly give it up to be with you."
"I agree" Avi replied. "Of course I do." He sat down the plate and took Mitch's and Scott's hands. "I love you. With all of my heart. Nothing is ever going to change this. I just get like this sometimes, especially when everyone around us is planning their weddings..."
"I get that" Scott said. "And of course I want to get married to you. But for now, it's not possible and we have to accept this, even though we don't like it. Maybe some day our voices will be heard..."
"I hope so" Mitch replied. "And if they don't, we'll have to be louder." He turned to Avi and looked at him. "Are you feeling better?"
"Yes. I never felt really bad, though. Just a little riled up..." Avi shrugged his shoulders.
"I know" Mitch said. "It was Will's comment when you asked him for the title of the song, wasn't it?"
"Yes... I mean it probably was more awkward for him than it was for us but still, it reminded me yet again..." he shrugged his shoulders. "Still, I am not bitter. I am happy for Kirstie and all the others who are getting married and also happy for the love I have in my life."
