**Author's note: The next few chapters will be pretty much a remake of Criminal Minds Season 9 episodes 23: Angels, and 24: Demons. I know that it is not exactly going in order with the previous episodes, but I really enjoyed that episode and I figured that it would make a great part in the story. Also, I know that Alex Blake was still in these two episodes, but since this is fanfiction, in my story she would have already left by now and these two episodes would take place without her. Other parts of the story will be different and it will not be identical to the actual episode. x***
Chloe's POV.
The next case didn't arrive until two days later. Agent Hotchner texted me around 8:30 PM:
NEW CASE. Flying to Texas . Be at the BAU by 9.
I hurriedly packed my suitcase, applied minimal makeup, and put on a work-appropriate outfit before getting in my car and driving to the BAU. Once I finally got there, I spotted JJ, Morgan, Reid, and Garcia all talking in a circle. Although I wanted to join them, Agent Hotchner announced that it was time to get started on the case. We all made our way into the conference room and I took a seat in the middle of Reid and JJ.
"What do we have?" JJ asked, looking up at Agent Hotchner. "Abigail Jones, prostitute, was found in a dumpster last night." Garcia stated as she clicked a button on a remote, showing images of Abigail's body in the dumpster and at the autopsy, large gashes on both her wrists and back. "What is that on her wrists?" Agent Morgan asked, his brows were scrunched. "It's rope burns. They go hand in hand with the lacerations on her back." Agent Rossi answered almost immediately.
"There's also a gunshot wound at the back of her head. Execution style." JJ added as she flipped through the crime scene photos in her file. "It's a conflict in MO," Reid started, "the restraints point to sexual sadism but the gunshot wound was a torture too quickly for the sadist." As he finished talking, he looked over to me. We held our gaze for about two seconds before I looked back up at Garcia, "Is that the only victim?" I asked. The blonde clicked another button, which revealed headshots of more victims. "There's Hannah Kelly, another prostitute who was killed six months ago and dumped one jurisdiction over." Agent Hotchner replied. "He was smart enough to separate the victims so that we wouldn't tie them together." I stated while looking at the pictures of the other victim.
"That brings us to our first victim, Lucas Wagner. He was killed eleven months ago. He had multiple arrests for soliciting a prostitute and was found outside of a crack house." Agent Hotchner said as Garcia clicked the button again, showing photos of the victim. "Call Sheriff Coleman and tell him that we're on our way." he directed to Garcia.
"Wheels up in thirty."
11:15 PM || On the plane.
As we all talked about the case, I started to feel a little sick. I couldn't tell if I was either coming down with something or if it was motion sickness, so I excused myself from the conversation and walked towards the front of the plane, where the coffee station and bathroom was. While I debated on whether to lock myself in the bathroom or to continue standing there and hope the feeling would subside, I listened in on the conversation.
"It just feels like we're missing something." Agent Morgan mumbled, there was silence for a moment before Agent Rossi spoke up, "What we're missing is whether this guy is a sadist or not. A gunshot to the back of the head throws everything off." Agent Hotchner responded with something immediately after, however I couldn't concentrate on his words due to the dryness that had formed in my throat and the shaking of my hands. I couldn't be getting sick, not now. Not during my second case. I leaned against the wall and shut my eyes, breathing slowly.
"Are you alright?" Reid asked, which made me jolt forward with a gasp. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just feeling a bit weird." I looked back at the rest of the team to make sure they couldn't hear. "What kind of weird?" He asked again, observing my body and most likely looking for signs of illness. If he wasn't a profiler, I would have found it extremely creepy. "It's nothing. Don't worry about it." I assured him, trying to get him to leave me alone. His eyes wandered down to my hands before speaking, "Your hands are shaking and you've been breathing at a fast rate. You're feeling anxious." Now that he had actually said those two words, I could tell that he was right. I also could tell what was causing it: the case. Yeah, the last case was much more gruesome than this one, but this unsub had been killing people for almost a year which meant that he was very good at not getting tracked down. That was what scared me, knowing that this unsub could not only be a sadist, but could also be extremely hard to find.
"I..I know. I'll get over it, just please give me a few minutes alone." I said to Reid as I tried to slow down my breathing. "Are you sure?" He asked, aggravating me. "Reid, I'm positive." I glared at him. He gave me a sad smile, as if saying okay and I'm sorry at the same time, before returning back to his seat.
I don't know why exactly it made me feel extremely guilty to see the look on his face, but in that moment I felt like a complete asshole. Sighing, I pushed my hair back with my fingers and remained in the front of the plane until the shaking, the nervousness, and the fast paced breathing ended.
