The Next Day || 12:40 PM
Chloe's POV.
"Why am I out here? What do you want from me? Please, what are you doing?"
The team and I heard the voice of John Conelly, the unsub's recent victim, from the unsub's backyard.
After visiting the crime scene with Rossi last night while the rest of the team gathered other evidence, the six of us were able to conclude that the unsub was Justin Leu, a college professor who had a tragic past. His father was extremely harsh on Leu and his brother, which led to his brother commiting suicide. The main reason that his father was so harsh on him was because he didn't believe that his grades in school were good enough. This ultimately traumatized Leu, and was the reason for his killings. His first two victims Dan Chen and Joe Hasley were seen by Leu as his father.
Now, it was John who Leu saw as his father, and we needed to get around back quickly so that we could save him.
"Shut up, Dad." Justin Leu shouted at him. I looked over at Hotch and raised a brow. We had been standing there with our guns for a while now, wasn't it time to finally step in? He glanced over at me and held up his free index finger, signaling that we would enter in a moment.
"I'm not your dad!" Conelly replied, sounding confused. The whole conversation was bizarre and if we were in any other situation, I would've found it funny. After a few muffled words followed by grunts and a scream, we quickly ran to the backyard where Leu had pushed Conelly into a hole that I had assumed he dug into the ground. "Please, don't hurt me!" Conelly begged.
"It's too late for that." Leu shouted as he pulled a gun out from his pocket and faced it at the poor man. "Stop what you're doing!" Morgan yelled as we all got into position, blocking any exit that he could escape with. "Drop that gun, Justin. You've killed enough." I said, keeping my gun aimed at him.
"Killing him is not going to help you!" JJ added, slowly stepping closer towards him. "Justin, your brother didn't commit suicide because he couldn't compete with your grades in school, he did it because he was depressed." Morgan informed him, causing the man to lower his gun slightly and shake his head. "No, it's my fault! I should've been there for him when my father punished him."
"No, it was your father's fault. He should've gotten your brother the help that he needed." JJ replied.
"Come on, it's over. Put that gun down. Don't let your father destroy you more than he already has." I said calmly, but firmly. I did feel bad for the guy, but I had to remind myself that he killed two innocent people and was about to kill a third. Justin stood there for a moment before letting the gun drop to his side. He broke down into tears as Morgan handcuffed him.
On the plane || 3:05 PM
As relieved as I was to be back on the plane, I also knew that once we were all settled, the interrogations about Reid and I would start up again. Of course, only Morgan had acted suspicious this morning, but who knows what he told the others while I was with Rossi? Keeping my distance from Spencer, I decided to take a nap in the back of the jet.
However, the turbulence every now and then and the frequent ear-popping made it harder to fall asleep than I had anticipated, and I decided to get a cup of decaffeinated coffee before sitting down with the rest of the team to see what they were talking about.
As I walked towards the front where the coffee station was, I could hear footsteps behind me, and prayed that they weren't Morgan's or Spencer's.
Just my luck, they were Spencer's, and he gave me a small smile before picking up a foam cup and filling it with caffeinated coffee. How did this guy ever sleep? "Spence, Morgan's been on my ass since last night about the two of us. If he even sees us talking-"
"I know, I know. It's just... we barely got to see each other during the whole case."
"Did you start to miss me after a whole 24 hours?" I teased, making sure to keep my voice low. "I did, actually." He replied with a smile, looking down at his feet. "Are you up for getting coffee once we land?"
I raised a brow and looked at the steaming cup in his hand. It took him a second to catch on, but once he realized, he chuckled and shook his head. "Okay, scratch that. How about-"
"Pretty boy! We've been waiting for you to come back so Rossi can finish his story." Morgan interrupted, clasping onto Spencer's shoulder.
"S-sorry, I'll be back in a second." He replied, obviously caught off guard. There were a few painful seconds of silence before Morgan spoke up again. "So, Garcia and I were planning on hitting up the movies tonight to see a horror movie, are you guys in?"
"You hate horror movies." Spencer replied almost immediately. "Listen, are you coming or not? Or do the two of you have other plans?" He said with a devilish smirk. I rolled my eyes, "Sure, we'll come. Right, Spencer?"
"Uh, yeah. Right." He replied, emphasizing the 't'. "Great. Meet us there around nine." He replied before sitting back down.
I let out a sigh and grabbed a foam cup, pouring caffeinated coffee into it instead of decaf. "I guess we're going on a double date." I joked, hoping that he wasn't angry at me for telling Morgan that we would go. "Guess so." He let out a nervous laugh. "I just hope that it doesn't turn into them questioning us all night."
"And I hope that I'm going to be able to keep my hands off of you all night." I whispered as I finished pouring sugar into my coffee. Without waiting for his reaction, I made my way back towards the rest of the team and took a seat next to JJ, leaving a wide-eyed Spencer Reid at the coffee station.
