Chloe's POV.
As soon as I got home, I tried as hard as I could to fall asleep. However, I kept tossing and turning in the sheets, then went from feeling too hot and kicking my blankets off, to feeling too cold and having to put a sweatshirt on over my tee shirt. I knew that it wasn't insomnia that I was having, though. It was nerves. Spencer Reid was the perfect man for me. He was gentle, kind, caring, and everything that Adam never genuinely was.
The thing that was keeping me awake was the fear that he would change. Granted, he had been working at the BAU for over five years with the same team before I joined and they all told me amazing things about him, I still couldn't shake the feeling. No matter how many times JJ and Garcia told
me that Spencer was the sweetest guy in the entire world, even if I believed it there would always be a part of me that also believed he had an evil side.I could never picture him like that, though. I don't think that I'd ever be able to picture Spencer slamming doors or getting drunk to the point where he was abusive or yelling at me if I looked at him the wrong way.
Finally, I ended up falling asleep around 5 AM and slept until 12 PM. It was a good thing that I woke up when I did, because Spencer called shortly after. After quickly picking up my phone, I had to refrain from pressing accept call almost immediately after my phone started ringing, and let it ring three more times before I picked up.
"Hey, Spencer." I said, trying not to sound overly excited as I walked into my kitchen and pulled out toaster waffles from the freezer.
"Hey, Chloe." He replied, sounding somewhat nervous. Laughing to myself, I popped two waffles into the toaster oven before replying. "So what's up?" I asked, feeling the awkward tension between the two of us.
"Uhm- nothing much. I just- uh, I actually wanted to know if you were free later tonight?" He asked, his voice going significantly higher as he ended his sentence.
"I am. What did you have in mind?" I asked while grinning like an idiot and hopping up onto the countertop, sitting next to the toaster.
"Well, I was thinking the traditional dinner and a movie? A-at my place. If, uh, that's alright with you?" He stuttered and his voice shook slightly with every word, only causing me to grin harder.
"Spencer Reid can cook? I would've never guessed." I teased, earning a chuckle from him. "I'd love to, Spence. What time should I come over?"
"How about seven?"
"I'll see you then." I smiled. We said our goodbyes and after hanging up, I quickly scarfed down my breakfast and put on a pair of leggings, black moccasins, an oversized sweatshirt from Victoria's Secret and a down vest before heading out to run some errands. Besides, I had at least six and a half hours before I had to be at Spencer's house. I might as well do some stuff that will take my mind off of it so I don't go crazy by over thinking everything and becoming extremely nervous. Which, I kind of already was. But I wasn't going to let it eat me up.
By the time I returned home, it was a little past three o'clock. I hopped in the shower for about ten minutes and then lounged around in my towel for some time before finally getting ready. I blow dried my hair that was now damp and then turned on the curling iron. As it was heating up, I did my makeup and pretty much tore my room apart looking for an outfit. For a second, I was convinced that I was back in high school and getting ready to go on a date with my crush. However, I was an adult woman getting ready to go on a date with my co-worker.
After taking an hour to decide on what to wear and then another hour to curl my hair, it was almost time to go to Spencer's. Normally for work, I'd wear a pair of skinny jeans, booties, and a nice blouse, but now that we were outside of work, I wanted to wear something that would compliment my figure and something that was not too work appropriate.
I decided to go with a pair of sheer black tights, black boots, a black dress, gold necklace, and a coat. As for my hair, I put it in a messy fishtail braid. The outfit was a little fancy for a first date, especially for one at his apartment, but it was the first time that he'd get to see me in something other than work attire and I wanted to impress him.
Around 6:50, I was finally ready and left my apartment. Spencer had texted me directions to his and it was closer to mine than I had thought. If I had a dollar for every time that I almost got into an accident while driving, I'd be a millionaire. My hands were shaking more than I'd like to admit and all I could think about was what if this date went horribly wrong? Sure, I had gone out to get coffee with Spencer multiple times, but things were different now and we weren't just friends anymore.
Once I arrived and made my way up to his apartment, my hand hovered over the wooden door for about half a minute before finally knocking. Once Spencer opened the door, his eyes widened and his lips parted into an almost perfect O. "You look...amazing, Chloe." He finally breathed out as his eyes scanned over every inch of me, lighting up the fire inside of me and in that moment I wanted nothing more than to rush inside and pin him against the wall and kiss him until my lips were bruised. No man, not even Adam, had ever looked at me the way that Spencer just did.
"You don't look too bad yourself, Spence." I smiled, my own eyes scanning over him. His short light brown hair was tousled like normal and even though he was dressed like he normally would for work with a button up shirt, sweater vest, pants, and leather shoes, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. His style was unlike any other guy's at his age, and although somewhat preppy and nerdy, I loved it.
"Come in, I'm almost done cooking." He said as he motioned towards inside his apartment. As I walked in, I couldn't help but wonder what the night could lead to and how it would end. And I was more than eager to find out.
