Chloe's POV.
Two months passed, we solved more cases and I was told that I had been improving every day. Like Reid had told me, I never got used to the sight of a dead body nor did I get used to shooting an unsub, but I did learn how to not let it get to me as much as it did in the very beginning. I came to learn that everyone on my team bottled up their emotions, because if they didn't, every single death and every trigger pulled would lead to a pool of tears. So, that was what I did. I bottled up my emotions.
Reid and I got much closer during those two months. Well, I got closer with everyone on my team, JJ running in a close second. However, I found myself at the same coffee shop that Reid took me to on day one on many occasions. Every few cases, we would always go there to chat right after our flight landed.
Becoming closer with Reid didn't exactly mean that I got to know more about him. From what I could tell, he didn't enjoy talking about his childhood. I could understand that, though, from what little I knew about his mother and his high school days.
I think that it was safe to say that I developed a small crush on him. Although small, it was a big deal for me. No, not in the whole 'over-dramatic teenage girl' sort of way, but I had always tried to stay away from guys and never get close to them after I was with Adam, so even something as small as a crush on another guy was a milestone for me. I never made it obvious, though. I always treated him as a friend and he treated me the same way back as far as I could tell. Even though Garcia and Morgan have pulled me over to the side multiple times to ask me why we haven't starting dating yet. The same reply would always come out of my mouth. I'd say, "I don't have feelings for him. Even if I did, it's looked down upon in this job." Then they would always tell me that no one really cared about that rule.
I wasn't sure if that was true or not. I mean, Garcia dated another technical analyst in the BAU, but they were not on the same team and Garcia spent most of her time in the BAU building rather than traveling with us. Not wanting to cross any lines, I'd just shrug their words off and then return back to whatever I had been doing.
It was around 10 AM when I received the text from Hotch, which is what I now called him because the rest of the team did, stating that we had a new case and to report to the BAU within the next half hour. Another thing, as I got closer to each of my team members, I started to just call them by their last names instead of adding Agent in front of it. It was something that I noticed the rest of them did with each other, so eventually I caught on. I got dressed in my black skinny jeans, black booties, a black top, and a green army jacket. I pulled my hair back into a low pony, applied minimal makeup, and quickly packed my suitcase before leaving.
10:35 AM || Conference Room
"Two nights ago in Long Island, New York, a woman named Shelly Anderson was found dead under a bunch of leaves in a forest." JJ clicked the remote, revealing pictures of the victim's body. She had a bullet wound in her stomach and multiple bruises around her face and body. "Last night, another woman was found." The blonde clicked the remote again, showing another victim with the same bullet wound and bruises. "Her name is Olivia Miller. Both of these women are in their early to mid-twenties." JJ stated, giving us a moment to observe the pictures.
"The unsub goes for a very specific look." Rossi said, squinting at the pictures in his file. "Long brown hair, brown eyes, both still very young and in good shape."
"Shelly's body was sent to the lab the morning after she was found. They concluded that she was killed about five hours prior to them finding her. According to her boyfriend, she had gone missing one day before then. The unsub keeps these victims alive for at least twenty four hours before he kills them. It's safe to say that during these twenty four hours, he tortures them." JJ sighed.
"Once we get there, JJ and I will go to the crime scene, Reid and Rossi will go to the lab, Morgan and Campbell will go question Olivia's parents. Garcia, please call Suffolk County's Police Department and tell them that we're on our way." Hotch directed before leaving the room.
11:15 AM || On The Plane.
The flight was only an hour long, so we decided to do another quick briefing with Garcia on video chat.
"Shelly's boyfriend told the police that she had gone for a morning jog and then never returned." Garcia informed us.
"That's a bold move. Abducting someone in broad daylight. Whoever the unsub is, he must be pretty confident in his ability to abduct someone without the people around him noticing." I stated, getting a few nods. "What if she knew him?" Reid questioned. "If the unsub knows his victims then they obviously would not feel uncomfortable if he stopped them to talk."
"Reid, you might be on to something." Hotch said before looking at Garcia. "Garcia, do background checks on both of the victims and see if you can find out who their co-workers and neighbors were."
"I'll get onto that right now. Garcia, signing out." The quirky blonde gave us a smile before ending the video chat. "Do Olivia's parents know about her death?" I asked Hotch. "No, you and Morgan are going to have to inform them." He replied. Morgan and I quickly glanced over at each other. During most of my team's cases, I had either been sent to look at the crime scene or to go to the lab. Any family members or friends of the victims that I conversed with had always known that the victim was dead. This was different, and to say the least, I was extremely nervous.
