The Rickety stage arrived in town
Whip Cracker wore a frown
He unloaded the parcels and all the mail
A couple of passengers looking frail
The horses were snorting and lathered white
He'd run them hard right through the night
'Slow down there, Whip, what's the nitty gritty?'
'Latest word I heard in Carson City.
It's enough to curdle a man's liver,
a riverboat on the Patchi River.'
3Gun remembered what Miss Treelane said
about her new career ahead
Could it be true, a boat to BG?
What that might mean they'd have to see
'Means the stage ain't no use no more,
not with a boat that's a travellin' store.
You'll see, Sheriff, BG'll change,
be a lotta new people, all of them strange.'
"Calm down, Whip and have a drink,
give yourself some time to think.
It can only go as far as the county seat,
paddlin' on land would be quite a feat.
There's still Oh Aces, Dog Flats, Dry Wells,
and the run from here to Rickety and Carson City.
To give all that up would just be a pity.'
'S'pose yer right and there's the Christmas run.
Without old Santa wouldn't be much fun.'
'There you go, crack a smile,
rest those horses for a while.'
3Gun stood looking at the town he loved
didn't cotton to a future where he might get shoved
Riverboats meant commerce that's for sure
But they also brought gambling
that left the miners poor
Have to speak to some others, get their views
