Going After Annie
Brody returned to Lou's house, saw the open door.
He frowned and walked up the steps,
Stepped inside and saw the empty bottle on the floor.
His eyes narrowed as he took in the sight of the
unoccupied table, the pushed-away chairs,
and the cups empty of coffee.
"Annie?" But Annie wasn't there.
Not in the bedroom, either.
Brody kicked at a chair.
The empty bottle gleamed and caught his eye.
He knelt down to pick up the bottle.
"Cocopop liquor? Why?"
"She 'gave me her heart.' Was it all just a show?
Would she really leave without telling me?"
He answered himself. "I don't know."
He looked outside and looked around,
saw the horse upon the ground.
"CM?" CM didn't make a sound.
Brody went for CG and came back
with CG, Lace, and 3Gun.
It was then Brody noticed the wagon track.
He went back into the house and sat down to think
"As flighty as Annie is, she'd clean up after coffee.
So...why did she leave everything so messy?"
He stepped outside. "3Gun, I think Annie's in trouble."
"What, again?" 3Gun shook his head.
"Uh-huh. I'd better get after her on the double."
3Gun said he would take care of CM,
because CG was distraught.
Brody saddled his horse and glanced once again
at the damage that had been wrought.
He rode out of town, following the tracks.
"If Annie's not in trouble now,
she will be when she gets back."
