What Have You Done?
I dropped the girl off with Doc
She didn't say a word
Her lips were locked.
3Gun keep pressing for news
I figured I'd let him fill in the blanks
With whatever he'd choose.
I was about to leave town
when I'd seen Rue
One look and she knew.
"What the hell did you do?"
"Nothing." I said.
"You can fool the others
but not me."
Suddenly my heart filled with dread.
What the hell DID I do?
"You've taken things too far.
Not even I'll have a say?"
"A say? About what?"
"If you get to stay?"
My heart plummeted
into my stomach
Stay, here in BG?
"Stay or end your eternity."
"But I did what was needed.
The girl would have died."
"You did what you wanted
And then you have lied."
"If you'd seen what I seen,"
I said wanting to come clean.
"He would have shot the girl,
She would have been dead."
"His intentions were noble
and you had a choice, you
left him there instead."
"I couldn't carry two,
you know that Rue."
Rue shook her head.
"What the hell happened to you?
Why would you leave him to die?"
"Why?
You ask me why?
Because of you and a dream
that haunts me,
and leaves me in a rage."
"So you just go off in a rampage?"
"It wasn't like that?"
"Then tell me true?"
"Fine. I'd rather be dead
than see him touching you."
Rue hung her head.
I lifted up her chin
I looked into her eyes
The tears unshed
took me by surprise.
"I don't what them to take you away
But I won't have a say,
I'll do my best to try and plea
But the worst part about this
Is I could lose you because of me."
I grabbed hold and held her tight.
"Somehow Rue, I promise.
I'll make this right."
