Senior
After three Hail Marys
and the act of contrition
The doc kissed the earth
As Gyn parked the wagon
The sheriff lent a hand
As they took the man inside
Gyn stayed to watch a bit
Until CG arrived
She then said goodbye
To get back to work
Told the doc to call
If he needed a driver
She hurried to the cafe
And saw it was packed
With people from that ferry
Parked in the dock
"Where have you been, dear?"
Asked Aunt Sue
"We've been up to our necks
Well before noon."
"Sorry ma'am." Gyn said
as she put on an apron
"There was an emergency,
I was tasked by 3Gun."
Gyn gave the old lady
The gist of the story
Told her things were alright
There's no need to worry
With Aunt Sue appeased
Gyn worked the crowd
It was well half past two
When the cafe quieted down
AJ gathered the crew
In the kitchen for a midday snack
He asked Gyn what happened
On her way back
She was about to tell the story
When the counter bell called
Aunt Sue was about stand,
when Ray said, "I'll go."
Everyone waited for Ray
With orders in hand
When they heard shouting
Next came a gunshot
Everyone dropped to the floor
but AJ was first on his feet
He grabbed his pole, went out
Gyn followed in a heartbeat
They ran to the dining area
Saw Ray with a bloody arm
Two masked men pointed guns at him
Both meant to do him harm.
AJ hid Gyn behind him,
And to Ray he said one word:
"Duck."
The boy did,
Straight behind the counter
AJ's pole went flying
Shortly after
The pole found its mark
Hit a bandit square in the face
AJ handled the other one quickly,
What the baker dealt left him in a daze.
Gyn helped AJ tie up the goons
While Aunt Sue took care of Ray's injury
AJ then ordered Gyn to inform the sheriff
Of the attempted robbery.
Ray approached the sleeping bandits
To take a closer look
He didn't recognize the young one
But the older one made him double back
AJ saw his reaction
And asked if he knew who they were
Ray nodded, his face grim
"He's Solomon Ray Sr., my father."
