Under the Lemon Tree
By the lemon trees,
He rehung his hammock,
How am I going to tell him?
My heart's in a panic.
"You plan to stand there all day
Or are you going to say something?"
He gazed as though he guessed
I felt myself blushing.
"I ... I spoke to Mr. Justice
He agreed to accompany me
I'll be gone a few days
To County"
I moved a few steps closer
When he didn't say a word
Gently touched his shirt buttons
Wanted him to be reassured.
"Justice brought you muffins"
"How'd you ..."
I looked up as he whispered
"I am the sheriff, you know."
He lazily brushed my hair away
His eyes held a naughty glint
"I ... I ... have to get back to
The ... the newsprint."
Strong arms around my waist
Tightly held me in place
I wriggled but could not
Get out of his embrace.
"Do you really need to go?"
I shook my head, nodding yes
"Alright, then you have to go."
How did I get in this mess?
His hair was lilac soft
My fingers around his neck
As me moved closer
Well, why not? What the heck.
"CG! CG! Come See!"
His arms slipped away
Exactly as Ron ran up
With a fist full of hay.
I hid a grin
Escaping out the gate
Ron blabbered on about
CM's date and what he ate.
"One of these days lad
I'll show you the use of a gun"
Back in his hammock, he snoozed off
Shaded from the desert sun.
