Lunch time,.... a time to be with your group of friends, or be off making out with your boyfriend somewhere. Not this girl. I mean there was a point and time I did all that. Freshman year I was dating David Brown for the first trimester till he told me I was a prude for not sleeping with him. Oh well his loss anyways.
Entering the cafeteria the smell of Friday pizza is in the air. The only good lunch day is always Friday. I wonder why they decide only Friday should be rewarded a decent meal. Not my problem I bring a sack lunch anyways. Leaving the lunchroom through the back doors, down the steps I make my way to the football field.
Grass thats only green because it gets painted that way crunches under my beat up all black converse. I plop down on the end of the first bleacher and look around. Yup as per usual no one but me and the guys that play football during lunch instead of eating. Or the kids also known as jocks. Rolling my eyes as one of them whistles my way.
Its' the same routine i've gotten used to for the passed three years. They whistle, I roll my eyes, Adrianna shows up and she talks my ears off and then lunch is over. Who is Adrianna? She's been my best friend since the 8th grade. We're both a to ourselves type person so now we are like that but together.
"Ivy! Heey", what did I tell you. Just a few inches taller than me at 5'6 Adrianna has long black hair, olive skin, and some pretty amazing dark brown eyes. I say that because we both have dark brown, boring, dull eyes but it's nice to have something in common, feature wise.
"How was class?" sitting down next to me she digs through her backpack that hangs over her belly. "Same old same old. Theres a new kid now." Pulling out her lunch she opens her brown paper bag and rustles through it. "Here pb&j with sliced grapes. Yeah i know I seen him second period. Remember the only period we should have together but you chose office work."
Taking the sandwich from her I pull out what I brought and hand her mine. "Here roman tomato and cheese. Thats still a weird combo for me to make. And yeah I know but I hate history and besides doing the office work gives me extra credits."
If you're wondering why we switched sandwiches don't.
Im only joking.
We do it because it's how our friendship started. See 8th grade first day we had to file in a line to go to lunch and we were right next to in front one another. Well one thing lead to another she hates grapes and I hate cheese. So switching sandwiches it was for us. Its not our everyday lunch only Fridays.
A ritual kinda.
"Are you working after school today? Hows your mom?" Simultaneously taking a bite out of our sandwiches we both hum in enjoyment. "No I have today and next week off. I guess they're renovating it. I get the days paid for though. I made sure."
"Mm i'm sure you did." Small talk here small talk there and just like that the entire lunch time period was over. I have one last class of the day fourth period then I can go home. Well not really I have fifth as well but its a free period.
Science, i've always struggled with it but i'm surprisingly passing it. As I swiftly make my way through the halls and up the stairs I take them two at a time. Once i'm in the door Mrs. Monsé greets me like always. This class is the only class i'll sit up front for. So I can get ahead notes wise since I sit so close to the projector.
As the other student start coming in I'm already waiting with my note book out and ready. A hand on my shoulder make me jump right out my chair making me fall on my ass. Looking up to see who it was the anger I had slowly fades away.
Oh. Maddox
"Oh I'm sorry I didn't know you would freak out. Here take my hand." Hot new kid just offered to help you up take the chance you weirdo. But no my pride gets the best of me, smacking his hand away I push myself up and rub my butt. "Damn it's probably gonna bruise." I say it in a whisper to myself.
"I really am sorry."
"Yeah. I heard you the first time it's fine. Is there something you need?" It's the first time I look at him in the face and boy was I missing out before. His face is perfectly symmetrical like what the fuck and his eyes a mesmerizing deep green. Beautiful might I add.
"The teacher told me to sit by you and get the old notes from you. I was going to ask for them." Is he serious? Doesn't he realize I still need to take today's notes? Rolling my eyes I sit back down in my chair. The scrapping of the one next to me indicates he sat down next to me again.
"I'll let you barrow them after class. I won't get behind just because you need the notes from the last 3 months you've missed." I don't bother looking his way because I can already see his face. An angry one I'm not the most likable person. When class is over I turn to my right so I can give Maddox my notes but he's already gone.
Oh well so much for that. Slinging my back pack over my shoulder I can't wait to leave for the day. I have to walk a half mile and take two busses to get home but once I'm home it's all worth it in the end.
