I really underestimated parties. I thought they would have sucked but I found myself having a good time on Saturday. After the drink spilling all over me I talked to Jacob for a while more before he got pulled away from me by a couple of his other friends. And then the whole David thing but it's whatever.
Ending up with a slight buzz I found Adrianna somehow and she lead me to the dance floor. Or well the crowed living room that had all the couches and tables pushed back to make room, and got me to dance with her for a while.
Not knowing how to drive and with Adrianna intoxicated to the max to where she had to cling to me for support I found myself asking Jacob if it was cool for us to stay. Not hesitating he helped me take her to an empty untouched room for us to stay the night in.
"What are you smiling about?" Getting brought out of my thoughts about Saturday by someone sitting next to me. "Nothing much just the party on Saturday."
Maddox pulls a grey notebook from his backpack that says SCIENCE in all caps on the front. "Oh nice I heard it's not your type of thing." Opening my notebook as well we wait for Mrs. Monsé to come in and start class.
"No not usually. I'm more of a homebody. Adrianna had made a point anyways." Shrugging Mrs. Monsé walks up to her desk and looks through a stack of papers.
"And what point was that?" Asks Maddox poking my forearm with his pen. My eyes quickly following the pens movement.
"That we need to do more things kids our age do." I quickly shrug before our conversation is cut short by the teacher beginning to talk.
By the end of the day I found myself walking home instead of waiting for the bus to show up. Humming to the song playing through my head phones i jump when a car honks at me.
"Want a ride?" Adrianna asks me pulling up to the curb. "What about the straight home rule?" I question in return taking my headphones out.
"My mom talked to my dad got him to stop being so strict about it. So hop in. Want to go get something to eat?" She asks while pulling away from the curb while I try clicking my seatbelt.
"Sure. No work today so I'm free."
"Awesome!"
Pulling up to a small diner just a few minutes from Adrianna's house I spot a familiar car parked a couple cars over from us. Sure enough when we walk in Maddox's head pops up from the booth he's sitting in. Waving us down before I can even say anything Adrianna is already walking over.
"Hey girls sit." Says Jacob scooting over to give one of us enough space. As I go to sit I'm yanked by my arm and shoved to the other side of the booth. "Aw that hurt Ivy."
Maddox feigns stabs his heart. "I can't believe I'm your last choice to sit with." Just shrugging at him I take the menu that lays unopened on the table.
"Did you guys order yet?" I ask still skimming the menu. "No not yet. Mind sharing the menu?" Maddox asks looking at me. His eyes are a different shade of green then from when we had talked in class. They're now a more earthy tone instead of a more emerald type color. Not replying I just place the menu between us both.
"Shit! Are you fucking with me!" Yells Adrianna looking at her phone. "I got to go Ivy I'm sorry." She says while grabbing her wallet.
"Is everything ok?" I ask starting to worry about what might have happened.
"Wha- Yeah yeah everything is fine. Um could you two give her a lift home for me? If you don't she'll end up using the bus system to get home." With out letting the boys reply she was already getting out of the booth.
Well shit....
"I got to head out too man. My dad wants me to explain the broken windows in the basement. Can I catch a ride with you?" Jacob asks while following Adrianna out of the booth.
As the two of them walk off together I can't quite put my hand on why. But it feels like they had done that on purpose.
"Then there was two." Maddox says picking up Jacobs stray menu from off the table. Scooting my way out of the booth I'm stopped by Maddox grabbing my arm. It's a gentil grab nothing harsh but I still find myself pulling away.
"Sorry I shoul-.." he says but stops when I sit back down only a crossed from him now. "It's ok." Quickly shoving a piece of hair behind my ear.
"No it's not Ivy I straight up got mad because that dick at the party put hands on you like that. Then for me to do the same." His hand glides through his thick, black hair making it messing. It's short, short but not short enough that his hand can't temporarily disappear in it while threading through it like it did just now.
"It's not the same. He was doing it forcefully and hurting me. You didn't. So yeah it's ok." The waitress comes to our table just as he goes to speak. Instead he just shuts up. We end up ordering the same thing. The breakfast plate with extra ham and sausage no bacon with French toast instead of pancakes and a chocolate milk shake.
Watching the waitress pour us a side water, it's like I can feel Maddox staring at me. Sure enough when I bring my eyes from my freshly filled cup his eyes are already looking at mine.
"What?" I ask looking around the diner. No one is here but the two of us.
"Nothing. You know I don't know much about you Ivy knight." Folding his arms on the table he leans in. Copying his moments I do the same. "We haven't really had the chance to talk very much have we."
"We have the time now," he says shrugging at me unfolding his arms, and leaning his back against the booths squishy firm padding.
"Tell me about your self then."
