**The song above is the song Ivy listens to on her way home**
There are moments in our life that define us as put by Tessa in Anna Todds book After , and quite frankly she's right. The moment Maddox and I had shared has had me thinking of him all the time. He was on a good streak of actually showing up to school since that Monday, but now he hasn't been here for a couple days.
And now my dumbass is worrying about him.
Sitting in our usual spot on the bleachers the light snow falls around Adrianna, Jacob and I.
"Ivy," Adrianna says getting my attention, "Girl what has you so distracted as of late?" she asks while she blows hot air on her hands with her mouth.
"Sorry I was just thinking about something it's not too important." shrugging Jacobs eyes look from me to Adrianna. "I don't know about you two but I think my stoned ass is going to eat inside for the day." Jacob says standing from his spot shoving his hands in his pockets.
"Comin'?" He adds while walking on the untainted snow on the path back to the school.
Adrianna looks at me and nods her head. "Yeah come on Ivy I guess it's that time of year we have to give up our front row seats to the jocks." The grunts of the boys playing football even in the snow is fascinating, you think they would tire of the game.
Making our way through the cafeteria doors there's a table with no one at it we all make our way to. "Ivy!" a high pitched voice calls after me. One I'd rather much avoid and have for a long time. So you would be as surprised as me when Gwen the captain of the cheer squad walks up to me.
"Ivy hey! Have you heard from Maddox? I know he tends to hang out with your little group of friends." She says while flipping her hair over her shoulder. You know those girls that would rather wear nothing to look good than be warm?
Yeah well thats Gwen. She has long blonde hair, paired with blue eyes, and she's tall at around five foot like eight or something so yeah she's pretty fucking pretty. Which is why I wasn't surprised to see Maddox and her with their tongues down each others throats a couple days ago.
Right before he stopped coming actually...
"Um no I haven't heard from him. I don't even have his number." I state while waving to Adrianna and Jacob letting them know they can sit down without me. "I'll be right there." Voicing it so Adrianna actually goes with the pot head.
"I thought I would ask." She shrugs and walks away from me. Making sure my back is turned all the way from her I pretend gage at my friends and roll my eyes. Gwen can be very sweat and she is but I just don't like her. I never really have.
By the time school is over the snow had stopped falling. The small flurries have been on and off for the passed week or so meaning Christmas is coming soon. I don't really care for holidays anymore. Shit my entire family doesn't anymore. I do however send Luca some money as a Christmas gift and in return I get a hand drawn card from him.
He's sweet I wish he was on a better path but all I can do is be there for him. Oh well, there's nothing I can do to straighten his ass out. He'll figure it out.
As I walk to the bus stop i barely make it on time to get on. The ride home is peaceful as the song Got my Number by Kim Petras plays full volume in my headphones. I find myself mouthing the lyrics. Deciding to play it on repeat as I walk the block to my house I stop mid-step when I get to the lawn.
I hadn't notice the person that was sitting on the porch step. Head laying on his crossed arms that lay on top of his knees that are against his chest. His dark hair falling on his forearm.
"Hello?" I say cautiously pulling my headphones out of my ears. Jade green eyes fall on me when his head pops up at my voice.
"Ivy!" Maddox says standing up making his way to me. "Hey sorry I know I came at a weird time. I just had to get away for a little." There is a purple bruise that colors his cheek, and jaw, and up close you can see the damage of two black eyes faintly fading.
"What happened to you?" Raising my hand to his jaw I trace it following it gently up to his eyes as well. He just stands there letting me touch me till I pull myself away. "Here come inside." Unlocking the door I usher him inside.
Maddox goes to say something but I cut him off before he's able to say anything. "Is your dumbass into something fucked up like my brother? Are you in trouble?" I begin to pace.
"Ivy." His voice is calm and collected as he follows my movements. "I'm not involved with anything shady I swear."
"Alright." I relax a little bit and stop pacing. Taking a deep breath to calm my anxious ass I go to the kitchen and Maddox follows. I pull out the hamburger meat I had thawing out yesterday. "Are you hungry?" I ask
"I could eat." he says shrugging. I begin making homemade spaghetti sauce as he watches me.
"Are you going to tell me what happened to you? And I'm just going to go in a whim here but that's the reason you haven't been to school. Just like the last time you didn't go right?" Never taking my eyes off of the pot with the sauce I wait for his answer.
Maddox doesn't respond and we are consumed by silence as I finish up cooking the meal. "Can you get the plates set? If you remember where they are at."
Draining the pasta of the water it was boiled in he gets the plates from the cabinet, and the silverware too.
"Thanks.. Serve yourself what you would like."
I hope I made enough pasta for two I'm used to cooking for one.
"It's delicious Ivy. I love the sauce." Maddox smiles at me but my attention catches on the light bruising that's on his face. Putting my fork down and wiping my mouth off I finish my bite of food.
"Maddox what happened? You can tell me. I won't tell anyone."
"It's none of your concern Ivy. Just leave it."
"Just leave it? Just leave it! How can I leave it when you've been gone for two days from school and then you show up on MY door step," I throw my napkin on my plate and stand up so quick the chair I was sitting in falls over, "I've been worried about your dumbass! So no I'm not just going to leave it! Why did you come here of all the places you could have gone? Like Gwen? You guys seemed to be pretty friendly!"
"So why me why did you come here if you didn't want to tell me what happened knowing damn well I would ask?" My chest rises and falls as the anger I presented slowly dissipates. Maddox just stares at me wide eyed.
