Chapter 5

     Alan's eyes widened in fear and realization.
     "So I'm fucked?" Alan said."I'm fucking dead..."
     "No," CC said."You're not completely fucked."
     "What can you do about it?" Alan said aggressively.
     "Alan," Mara said dangerously."Calm down."
     Alan sighed, but calmed down and said,"What can you do?"
     "I can do a surgery to remove it, but it will be risky and you will be fully awake during the ordeal."
     "You guys don't have anesthetics?!" Alan exclaimed.
     "What are anesthetics?" CC asked.
     "Son of a bitch." Alan said.
     "Will it hurt him?" Mara asked, a slightly worried tone in her voice.
     CC nodded."It will be an extremely painful surgery."
     "Well do what you gotta fuckin do." Alan said.
     "Are you sure you wanna go through with this?" Mara exclaimed, now visibly worried.
     "It's this or dead Mara." Alan said.
      Mara reluctantly nodded and stepped back.
     "Before I can do the surgery, I need to do a few tests." CC said.
     Alan nodded. CC did an X-Ray, tested his breathing and heartbeat again, took blood, and felt his ribs.
     "I'm gonna have to saw through one of your ribs Alan." CC said, slowly and nervously after the tests.
     A bead of sweat ran down the side of Alan's face before he said,"Fine. So whatever you have to do."
     "Although Alan was super calm on the outside, he was freaking the fuck out internally." Aiden said from nowhere.(literally)
     "But Mara was really good at reading people's body language and she could tell Alan was afraid and nervous."
     "Don't worry Alan," she said, putting her hand on his."I'll be right there for you the whole time."
     Alan looked at her and smiled. She could tell that he was happy that she was there.
     "I'm ready CC," Alan said surely."Do whatever you gotta do."
     "Okay." CC said.

*About 3 hours later*
     "CC completed the surgery without any complications." Aiden said.
     "Alan didn't show any sign that he was in any pain, but Mara could see it in his eyes."
     "She could see that he was in complete agony, but he was hiding it better than anyone else she'd ever seen."
     "So during the entire 2 hour surgery,(it would've been faster, but CC had to do it alone), Mara held Alan's hand. She enjoyed it's warmth and softness. And she could tell he was happy and felt reassured to have her presence there with him. He was squeezing her hand gently the entire surgery."
     "After the surgery was done, Mara could tell that Alan was reluctant to let go of her hand. She was too. She wanted nothing more than to just sit and hold Alan's hand."
     "You need to make sure you take it easy," CC said."If you put too much stress on the stitches, they could break."
     "You got it Doc." Alan said with a salute.
     "Doc?"
     "Short for Doctor."
     CC nodded her head and said,"OHHHHHHhhhhhhh."
     Before Alan and Mara left, CC leaned by Mara's ear and whispered in the Inkling language,"I can see the way you guys look at each other."
     "I don't know what your talking about." Mara replied in the same tongue.
     "You two got a little thing going don't you?"
     Mara blushed."N-no. We're just friends."
     "I think it's a little more Mara," CC said imploringly."I've never seen you blush or stutter over anything."
     "Okay, and so what if we do!?" Mara exclaimed, still speaking in the Inkling tongue.
     "I'm not complaining or anything, I'm just saying as your friend, proceed with caution Mara." CC walked away before Mara could respond.
     "What the hell was that all about?"Alan said, oblivious to what the Inkling girls were just talking about.
     "Nothing," Mara said quickly."C'mon. Let's head back to my place before it gets too dark."
     Mara and Alan started walking across Inkopolis Square, but narrowed their eyes when they noticed the whispering going on around them.
     "What the hell is going on?" Alan whispered to Mara.
     "I don't know but-"
     A spotlight was suddenly on above them and a voice yelled into a loudspeaker of the helicopter suddenly flying above them, cutting Mara off mid-sentence.
     The voice yelled,"STOP AND PUT YOUR HANDS UP! YOU'RE UNDER ARREST!!!!!"
     Oh shit! Mara thought.
     "Hey you guys down there," another voice yelled."Grab them for me and Marina. Consider it doing us a favor."
     OH SHIT Mara screamed in her mind.
     Without saying a word, they both ran for an alley full speed. They could hear the Inklings and Octolings in hot pursuit.
     "No!" Alan cried in surprise when there was a dead end.
     They both turned around and saw the crowd of Inklings and Octolings right there. They were cornered.
