// Audition Day \\
Over the past two days, I treated myself as a company would treat it's trainee - practicing wise. I felt confident that I would at least do okay with the dancing portion, but singing, not so much. Whilst I drove I kept my breathing under control, reminding myself that nothing is guaranteed and even if I do mess up, I'll know that I tried and did well. I packed extra medication with me in case if I did have a panic attack. It wasn't long before I arrived in Busan, and navigated my way to the audition building. I held onto the strap of my mini shoulder bag to my body, silently going over the song and rap in my head.
I stepped inside and to my surprise it was not too big, but the right size to fit around 500 or so people at once. A reception desk stationed to my left, to my right held another door. I walked up to the receptionist and explained everything. I got a number, 575, and she directed me to the audition room to wait in line for my turn. As I watched other people perform, I felt a bit self-conscious; lots of people were really good. Some were being taken into other rooms for what I assumed to be further evaluation.
A half hour goes by and, it's my time to step up and perform. I took a breath before walking up to stand in front of the camera. A lady who looked to be in her early 20s smiled at me before speaking.
"Before we start, I'm just gonna do some camera tests. Look in the direction I tell you to, okay?" I nodded and did as she said.
"Beautiful, beautiful. Now, we'll start with dancing. Whenever you're ready sweetie." At that I took out my phone and began playing Boombayah; once I began dancing, I felt my anxiety evaporate away like it hadn't ever existed. I put my all, my everything into this performance. When I finished, I was startled to hear everyone clapping for me, faces full of shock. My face began to glow a red hue and I became a bit shy.
"Stay there for a second sweetie, I'll be right back." Whispers filled the room but she thankfully wasn't gone too long, but instead a man accompanied her, seeming to be close to the age of 50.
"If you would please come with us, Ms. Lee." I obediently followed the man into a separate room, where 4 other girls were standing off to the side. Another camera was also set up in the bare room. I was as confused as ever. I didn't dare make eye contact with the other girls, but I could feel them staring daggers into me.
I stepped up to the camera and waited to be told what to do next.
"Alright, Ms. Lee, we know that you can dance. Can you sing?" The man said; he stood behind the camera, staring at me.
I stared back at him. "Yes, I can."
"I want you to sing what you had planned for today, but without music." That took me aback, but nonetheless I obliged.
Everyone in the room clapped for me once more. I blushed and smiled.
"You're perfect for what we're looking for in our newest girl group." The man came from behind the camera and held out his hand for me to shake.
"I'm Yang Hyun-suk, owner and leader of YG Entertainment."
