as i sit straight up, my back against the wooden headboard, her restless head lay in my lap as i graze my finger tips through her hair.
"john?" she mumbles, feeling her soft breath on the skin of my thigh. the comforter inches away from her small nose as it covered the rest of her body. my hand preoccupied with the strumming of my guitar, trying to tune it for an acoustic version of a song i was covering.
"babygirl?" i caress her soft cheek with the pad of my thumb. beloved by her gentle skin.
"i can't sleep," she huffs. hanging her long arms over my other leg for better grip.
"you want me to sing to you?" i suggest, or more as an offer. anytime i sung to here she found it soothing to her soul.
"yes please." she nodded her pretty little head, fluttering and batting her long eye lashes shut.
i start plucking my fingertips against the thin guitar strings, lost my guitar pic. playing the chords to a song that i've been meaning to sing to her.
i had a dream about you last night your eyes were shining so bright those lips and that bittersweet smile i need this forever.
