I arrived thirty minutes late for my violin class and I knew this wouldn't go well. Mrs. Sidney  was a strict teacher and she had a special  hell in her soul for late comers.

"I'm sorry I'm late. I had  to..."

"Miss Kristina Bulero, she said in her 'this - is - about - to - go - down' tone, "I have no time for your silly excuses. Let this not happen again."

I quickly walked to the back of the class thanking God I missed a scolding by a whisker.

There was one empty seat next to a girl I had seen before but had never talked to. I removed my violin and quickly flipped through the pages of my guide book to the song Mrs. Sydney was playing.

"Hello," the girl said to me with a cheerful smile.

"Hi," I answered.

"I'm Kelsie. You must be Kristina," She said.

"Yes I am although my friends call me Kristie. How did you know?" I asked quite surprised.

"Mrs. Sydney mentions you a lot. 'Miss Kristina Bulero you are late!' " Kelsie made an impression of Mrs. Sydney and we burst out laughing.

"Hey, I'm punctual mostly."

"Yeah right. "

"Miss Kristina Bulero!" My laughter died once I realised it was the real Mrs. Sydney speaking. "See me after this. You too Miss Kelsie !"

"Oh oh!" Kelsie whispered to me.

"I know" I whispered back. After class, Kelsie and I went to Mrs. Sydney. "You have detention today. You may leave," she said before going into her office.

"Let's get to it then. It's about time," Kelsie said. We walked to the detention room downstairs it was actually at the basement of the school. We found a bunch of other kids there.

We sat on the desks at the furthest corner of the room. The others were rowdy and noisy since the detention master wasn't around that day.

"At least I can take a day off. No assignments for me today,"

"You're lucky... I have a script to write," I said as I removed a blank new book to start off the play.

"Aah script writer of the year," Kelsie said in awe.

"Yes I've been thinking about it since I left the club meeting earlier today but I just can't get a suitable beginning. You see its about this black girl and white boy who fall in love despite the unfair efforts of the boy's family to get hold of the land of the girl's family."

"Is the theme racism?"

"Yeah exactly!"

"And I'm guessing you are the black girl? " Kelsie said her eyes examining me.

"No I can't take the main role!"

"But why not, You're perfect for the role!"

"Now Kelsie just because I'm black doesn't automatically make me the main actress. That would be racist!" We both laughed.

"Where are you from?" She asked me.

"I'm from Kenya but I lived in Poland all my life. I came to Australia about one week ago."

"You're new here? I'm new too! I'm Hispanic, from Mexico but I've been living in Australia. I just moved here two months ago."

We spoke for a long time as if we had known each other in our past lives; if you believe in reincarnation. She gave me really good ideas for the play too. At least I made progress with it.

Eventually detention came to an end and it was time to go. Luckily the detention master was absent because all I ever heard about him was that he was a 'big old grumpy man.'

(Hey readers, thanks a lot for reading. It really means a lot and I appreciate every effort. Please don't forget to vote and comment. Ily)
