My mom being pregnant felt like we were all pregnant. Everyday had its own predicament right from the minute she woke up to the minute she went to bed.
The baby was driving us nuts! I even had second thoughts on whether or not to be happy about this baby. Who knew how many sleepless nights would be there and also me being the baby's maid. I was already it's maid actually because anything my mom required, I got it for her and she would say it's good for the baby.
So now the BABY was in control huh? I am working for it before its actual existence! Well that isn't happening.
"Leila you must take your vegetables." There goes my dad with his usual cautionary measures, "You too Kristie."
"Don't you dare drag me into this. Mom's the one you're after."
"I'm not taking any Australian vegetables." My mom had a strong dislike for vegetables that came from outside East Africa. No wonder she overstayed during her visit to Kenya.
"But darling, you require the iron for..."
"Herbert please. The baby is too tired to listen to you."
"I'm speaking to you Leila!"
"Kristie!" My mom called me completely ignoring my dad, "The baby needs some water!"
"It should get it for itself," I said softly as I went to get some water for my mom.
"What did you say?" My mom asked.
"I said okay mom. I think the baby is making you deaf. We should get rid of it," I said handing her a glass of water.
"Kristie! How could you say that!"
"I'm sorry!"
"Look, I know it's hard for you to get used to the fact that there will be another member in the family but you have to accept it. Your dad and I are happy and so should you be." I looked at my dad and he was obviously forcing a smile.
"Ye-ah," I said with assurance that my mom was the only one who was happy about this baby. I was also busy preparing for my interview with Kelsie when I realized... it would be on the same day as my birthday. How could this be? I can't spend my birthday commemorating Lindsey; that's just sad.
But I promised Kelsie I'd meet her at her place and it's really important to her. Besides, I had no plans for my birthday and my parents definitely forgot about it because of the coming of the little devil... I mean little angel sent from above!
