My mom would arrive at twelve o'clock and therefore all the guests had to come earlier. True to that, everyone, well most people had arrived before then. At least Kelsie was there too; someone I could relate with.
Lindsey had told me she would be late, something about a mud bath. My dad had left for the airport and we all waited eagerly. Actually I was the only one who was eager. The rest had just come for the cake and free food.
Kelsie was drinking a glass of milk. "I've noticed you like milk so much. NowI know what to get you for your birthday."
"If that was a joke, it wasn't funny," she said frowning.
I heard my phone beeping... it was my dad.
"Guys! They are almost here!" Everyone rushed to their hiding spots. We heard the door open and simultaneously yelled "WELCOME HOME!" as we jumped out of our hiding spots.
My mom was so happy that she cried. I ran to hug her almost knocking her over . Funny thing was, she didn't know anyone else except my dad and I....but all the excitement in the room made her blend in so well. That was my mom. She was a people's person. She could make a conversation interesting with the most boring, anti social person you know.
"Mom. This is Kelsie, my best friend."
"Hello Kelsie, you look lovely today!"
"Thank you so much!" Kelsie hugged her.
"Wow... she's got a lot of energy," Kelsie commented. Lindsey finally showed up.
"Kristie... Kelsie," she called out to us.
"Your face is so smooth! Where are you from? I need that location now!" Kelsie told Lindsey.
"I'll text you the place. It's really far so that's a lot of directions."
Lindsey told Kelsie the name of the place and she secluded herself to read more about the place.
"I'm glad you could make it. But I thought you said you would be coming in an hour."
"I was supposed to but something went wrong with processing my passport. I have to go there now or else I won't be able to process it in another month!"
"Oh no! That's terrible. You have to get going. But before you do, I have something to give you." I went to take the halved heart necklace and gave her her half. "I thought you should have this before you go. In case the mummies kidnap you, you will always remember me." We both laughed.
"I have something for you too," she said walking out. She came back carrying the cutest thing I have ever seen in my ENTIRE LIFE.
"Aaaww, I've always wanted a puppy!" I was super excited.
"I've been waiting for it to grow and I picked this one and from what I see, you like it."
"Like it? I LOVE it!!" I hugged the little pup. "I'll call it Lindsey!"
"I'm not sure if its an honour or an offence naming a dog after me."
"Don't ruin the moment." Lindsey the pup was irresistible. It had a light brown fur and small black eyes. Even the wagging of its tail was adorable.
"I have given the puppy to you today because next week I won't be in school."
"But why?"
"The other two guys and I have to go for medical check ups and vaccines before we go to Egypt. We have appointments everyday next week. Anyway I will see you in three weeks. Be a good kid."
"I'll miss you. Bring me something, anything from Egypt. Bye!"
The party went on well and by 6 o'clock people started leaving. Only a few remained for the night party. Even Kelsie was gone. I was giving Lindsey, the pup, a tour of her new home.
"This is my room which is also your room. I sleep in the big bed, you will sleep on the mat." I said looking at her adorable face. "I change my mind, you can sleep in the big bed too." I went down stairs straight into the garden to show Lindsey her playground. "And this is where you can run around silly and..."
"Who are you speaking to?"
More like who was speaking to me. I turned to look at the speaker and...OMG... It was the ASIAN GUY!!
"My dog Lindsey," I said patting Lindsey's head.
"Let me hold her a little. I'm obsessed with dogs." I handed Lindsey over to him.
"Lindsey... and what's your name?"
"They call me Kristie," I said smiling widely.
"I'm Charlie. I live on the far end of this street."
"I know, I'm the one who gave you the invitation card yesterday."
"Really? That was you? You look very different today."
"I had a long day yesterday with school and this drama competition we have and preparing for this party..."
"Wow...you did have a lot. Yesterday made me think you are one of those shy girls."
I WAS one of those shy girls. I was just being a good actress.
"HAHAHA. Whaaat? Nop not me."
"She's sleepy. You should take her to sleep," he said putting Lindsey in my hands; she was that small.
"How do you know?"
"I know everything about dogs. You can ask me anything."
"Let me think of a question as I take her upstairs. I'll be back."
Lindsey was the ultimate blessing. She came into my life at the right moment. I quickly placed her on top of my bed and covered her with a small blanket. She was my precious treasure. I went back to the garden where Charlie was.
"How come you've been here all this time?" I asked standing close to him.
"I'm waiting for Ryan, my two years old brother. He's the only reason I'm here. Plus, I like your garden. The fresh air, the sound of crickets, perfect mood for ..." he stopped talking.
"For what?"
"Never mind that."
Come on! If he was going to say what I'm thinking right now then it's a great bummer he didn't. I guess I'll have my way then. I walked to the centre of the garden and I lay on the grass looking at the sky.
"Are the aliens coming?"
"No," I laughed, "I just love looking at the stairs on a clear night sky like this one."
"In that position?"
"Is there another position?"
"Mh. Fair enough."
He joined me on the grass. There was a moment of silence for the appreciation of mother nature.
"You're right. The stars look spectacular in a clear night sky... so you spoke about school, you're in high school?"
"Yeah, only got one more year to go."
"Great. I'm graduating this year," he said.
Just then his little brother ran into the garden.
"Charlie, I sleepy," he said scratching his little eye.
"That's my cue," Charlie said standing. I stood too.
"I'll see you around, Kristie."
"Definitely." Charlie carried sleepy Ryan home which was so adorable! By this time everyone had already left and the place was in a mess.
"At least mom's back," I said looking at some spilled soda.
I went to my room. My parents were still talking in their room. They had so much catching up to do. I saw the peaceful Lindsey still asleep. I slept right next to her. What a night!
