Usually I'm not the type to be tensed up but the upcoming Annual Drama Competition was changing this fact. I, for one, had to master crying as a personality; why did I give myself so many crying scenes? Mr. Paisley was also in the same situation as we were.
"Kristie! This is your scene! Hurry!"
"No... it's Tamara's scene"
"Where is Tamara? Tamara!"
"I'm standing right here sir."
"Good. Now Dale, get into character."
"I'm pretty sure you mean Kam."
"Kam get here now!"
This was him every single day of the week. Terrence was the calm one. He tried to get everyone to remain calm. He would always smile and start every meeting with a pep talk. Every team needs a person like him.
The competition day arrived eventually and honestly, we had done enough work preparing for it. seven months had gone just like that and this is the day we had been waiting for. Coincidentally, this was also the same day as Lindsey's flight. She would be in Egypt for a week. That is just plain awesome.
"Guys," that was Terrence with his introduction of his pep talks, "We've come a long way and no matter what happens today, we still are the best that we can be. It's been seven long months of nothing but teamwork and even though there was a misunderstanding along the way..." he said this looking at me. I looked at Paige. Dale looked at the carpet on the floor. "...we overcame them and moved on. That's the best part. I believe in us."
We all clapped shortly after his final word. That actually gave me a jump start even though the 'moving on' part was still pending with me.
Dale and I had never spoken about anything since the day he told me that had 'a thing' to do. We only spoke in our scenes which was on another level of weird.
Maybe it's time I let go, mainly because I blew it. Big time. Charlie was still around, right? Right! We arrived at Mayfair High, the venue of the Drama Competitions. This was it!
We got out of our bus, one-by-one, each contemplating on what would go on that day.
HOLD UP
Do I see...no it couldn't be. Is... is that... is that CHARLIE!
"Yo Charlie!" I yelled. He looked in my direction.
"Kristie! I've been expecting you."
"You knew I would be coming?" He was now close enough.
" Yeah. You mentioned drama competitions earlier this week... or was it last week?"
"Why didn't you tell me your school is the host school for this competition?" I asked giving him a punch on his upper arm, "Ouch! That's some muscle."
"Kristie! Let's go!" Tamara called out.
"I have to go. I'll see you after the competition."
"Good luck!"
I couldn't believe it. Charlie was actually here. That means he could watch my performance!
We were directed to our own room since each school had a room allocated to them.
"No one leaves this room," Mr. Paisely said locking the door, "No music. You will forget your lines. No sweets," he took Marissa's lollipop from her mouth, "Your voices must be perfect."
"But I eat sweets ALL the time. My bag is full of them!"
It's true, we call her Lolo because she always has sweets in her mouth and backup sweets in her bag pack.
