"I know many things are going through your mind right now. Please have a seat," she said, patting the space on the bed, next to her.
I sat right beside her then she took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry Kristina. Everything that is happening is my fault and there is nothing I can do to undo it."
"But why mom,? Why?"
"It was an mistake."
"Twice, mom. Twice! You taught me to learn from my mistakes. You said a mistake counts as a mistake if it happens once! Here we were eagerly waiting for your return but it seems you had other priorities."
"Despite everything, I'm still your mother, Kristina. And I still love you very much."
"I love you too mom, "I said hugging her tightly, "I really don't want you to leave."
"Me neither. But mistakes do have consequences. I have to face mine." This made me start crying.
"Maybe we can convince dad so you can stay, and we can become a happy family again."
"I want that as much as you do Kristina but..." She stopped because the door suddenly opened. It was my furious dad.
"I thought I told you to stay away from Kristina," he said pointing at my mom, "Your lifestyle is poisonous for her. It's time for you to leave."
"My flight is not until next week."
"I rescheduled it. It's in an hour. Your presence here has become unbearable." He then left the room.
"Mom don't leave me," I looked at her with tears in my eyes.
"I have to go. My conscience needs to be cleared and staying here will only make me feel worse," she said wiping my tears off of my cheeks.
I helped her pack whatever she and Keshun needed. I was very fond of the baby and the thought of him growing up without me hurt, but I knew I'd see him again.
"I helped carry their bags to the porch as my mom carried Keshun. I wanted to take them to the airport but my dad gave me a stern warning and sent me to my room. My mom was GONE.
I stayed in my room for hours telling Kelsie about everything that happened. My family had fallen apart PERMANENTLY. I wasn't sure on how to handle it and I needed someone to lean on. That someone was Kelsie.
I heard a knock on the door and my dad appeared from behind it.
"Aren't you going to have dinner tonight?" He asked.
"I'm not hungry," I said coldly. My dad stood at the door for sometime without closing it. He came to sit with me. I turned on the other side, showing him my back.
"Kristina," he started, "I know it's hard for you, but it's harder for me."
"You chased her without even blinking, without a second thought."
"What she did was unforgivable!"
"Nothing's unforgivable dad."
"If your boyfriend cheats on you twice, will you forgive him?" I opened my mouth ready to deny having a boyfriend but my dad immediately said, "Don't tell me you don't have one. The chemistry between you and Charlie is undeniable. So would you?"
"I guess not." This is the most awkward discussion that my dad and I have ever had.
"Thank you," he said sounding contented, "Have you started packing? Your clothes are everywhere," he said looking at my messy room, "We might leave sooner."
"You did say that if I get a job somehow, I can stay. Right?"
"Uh... yeah. Good luck with that," he said mockingly, leaving the room.
"I'll show him. Besides, how hard can it be? I'll start first thing tomorrow after school," I assured myself.
