"One vanilla shake and one strawberry mint shake please," Kelsie made an order at the Slashi Hub counter.
"I swear you've tried all the milkshakes in this place," I told her as we sat.
"Not all of them, just most of them. I'm guessing you've only ever tried just one flavor."
"Vanilla is a very exquisite flavor."
"You'll never really judge correctly until you try the rest," Kelsie said offering me her milkshake.
"You mean to get that pink-green concoction in my mouth? No thanks."
"Fine," Kelsie sucked her milkshake and made an expression to show how sweet it was.
"I'm sorry for bringing this up now but why didn't you attend Lindsey's funeral?" Kelsie asked then immediately sipped her mysterious concoction.
"I did but by the time I arrived it was over."
"So you DIDN'T attend the ceremony. Dale and I waited for you."
"You... and Dale... were there... TOGETHER?"
"Yes. We hoped you'd show up. Where were you?"
"My mom was unconscious that morning. I found her on the kitchen floor."
"What!! How?!"
"According to the doctor, my mom is pregnant."
"This is amazing news!!!"
"Yes it is. She was discharged on Monday. I went to the graveyard later that day after the ceremony. If it wasn't for Charlie I wouldn't make it there."
"Charlie?"
"Yes. The Asian guy remember? He's from my neighbourhood."
"Ooh that's Charlie. He's hot."
"Yeah and I call DIBS," I said quickly making it clear that Charlie was off limits.
"Okay," Kelsie laughed, "Looks like you finally got over your crush."
"Dale?"
"Who else? You've liked him for the longest time." Kelsie was obviously mocking me in my face.
"Charlie's way better than Dale; trust me. Plus I heard Dale found someone else so that automatically cuts me out."
"That's a lie."
"How do YOU know that?" I had Kelsie cornered.
"I've never heard of it."
"I guess the journalism club doesn't know everything." I sipped my milkshake looking at Kelsie. I was hoping she could come clean and tell me about her and Dale but looks like she wasn't ready yet. I wasn't going to force it out of her.
"Alright," she raised her hands, speaking of the journalism club, I would like to interview you next weekend on your life with Lindsey Park. It's a project I'm working on.
I wasn't comfortable with this one bit. It would remind me of every single moment I spent with Linsdey and I didn't want that.
"I'll think about it."
"One last question, which one would you prefer; stripes or polkadots?"
"Polkadots obviously."
"Perfect!"
"Why? Is it for a dress?"
"Yeah it is."
"What's the occasion?"
A date with Dale?"Nothing really... uh... It was a debate my mom and I were having and so far, no one prefers stripes over polkadots.... Oh!" Kelsie exlaimed when her phone rang.
"Who is it?" I asked her.
"A friend. You don't know him. I've got to go."
"Does your friend have a name?" I asked.
"Of course he does, but you don't know him. I'll see you later." She then left me seated there by myself.
"I bet it's Dale, but that's none of my business." I finished my milkshake then I left.
