Adults say, "Respect your elders!" And we ask "why?"
To which the response is "Because they have more authority than you, they deserve it. Even if you don't respect them you have to." To this I say "So respect means obey and be nice because respect is what people think they deserve. This is what respect is?"
Respect, respect, respect...how delusional of us. I respect my teacher because I have to, I respect my mother and father because I have to, I respect my boss because I have to, I respect my brother and sister because I have to, I respect my peers because I have to, I respect the rules because I have to... since when did respect become an order and not a choice? If we do not respect most of these things then bad things happen to us because people think that respect is a given, not something you earn. Respect is supposed to be a compliment a person based on their actions or the type of people they are, given to them by another person. Why now is the term used as a threat?
We are taught from young ages that we need to respect everyone no matter what. This is both unbelievable and undeniably pathetic. Respect is earned! And you know what?! If everyone one deserves respect like people say, then why are we talking down to people whom don't respect, as if they are inferior to us? F*ck respect! No one gets the compliment nowadays with sincerity or is it ever rarely earned! I refuse to respect everyone on their titles alone! WAKE UP EVERYONE!
