Ayona

"Nurse. I'm right here baby. I'mma need a nurse!!"

I heard rushing footsteps and then his hand was gone. I panicked, he left me. Why'd he do that.

"She needs m-"

"Sir, give us some room to work. This is good—"

How the fuck was this good? I was choking!!!!

"—She's fighting intubation—which means she's able to breathe on her own."

As she explained, I felt myself gag as something was being pulled from my throat, which felt raw and disgusting.

Oh. That makes a lot more sense.

On cue, my eyes snapped open, but just as quickly as they'd opened though, they snapped shut.

The light was too bright. Shit, what are y'all trynna do blind a bitch?

All the bustling around me stopped. "Move the light."

From behind my eyelids, I saw the bright light retreat to the side.

Oh, and they can read minds. Yup, I must be dead.

"I can assure you, Ms. Summers, you are very alive."

My eyebrows shot up, lips pursed outward in confusion. Soon, I felt his hand take mine.

"Now, would you do us a favor and open your eyes for us—this time keep them open for a little longer will you?" The doctor joked, which only annoyed me.

Why? I didn't know. Hormones, perhaps. Slowly, I parted my crusted eyelids.

Blinking a few times, I tried to clear my blurry vision.

As it cleared, two faces stared at me, hopeful.

One was Daystar—who looked exhausted, he'd had bags under his eyes and a female doctor.

I cleared my throat, "D-Do you have to stand so close?" She smiled.

"Don't worry, I'll be out of your hair in no time. Follow this light for me." She swiped it slowly horizontally and then vertically. "Good. Now," she slid two fingers into my hands.

"Squeeze as hard as you can." I did so. "Wonderful grip."

Walking to the end of the bed, she moved the covers back. And then using the back of her metal flashlight, she dragged it across the bottom of my foot. "Can you feel that?"

I nodded, she repeated the same thing with my other foot. "Good, now wiggle your toes, please."

Just then I'd realized my stomach had looked deflated and for once in months, I could see my toes.

My hands instinctively shot down to it.

Hot tears rushed down my face. I couldn't feel any life within my previously swollen body.

"Ms. Summers. Can you wiggle your to—"

I looked up. I was pissed. My tone was low and threatening, "What. The. Fuck. Happened?"

She looked confused. "Wha—"

"What, the fuck?! I came to you to save my baby and you save me instead?!!!!" I screamed.

I must've looked crazed. I didn't care. I launched at her, not caring if the syringes tore my skin.

But, Daystar, held me back before I could get to that point though.

I broke down. "My baby!" I cried. I pushed him away, cradling my stomach.

The doctor quickly rushed to my side. "Ms. Summers— listen to me." I blocked her out.

It wasn't until, Daystar, had cradled my chin in his warm hands. "Ayona, calm down please. Let the doctor talk."

I was numb. I had one job—protect my baby from outside threats and I couldn't even do that. How was I going to be a suitable mother.

"Ms. Summers, your baby is fine!" She blurted.

"What?" I blinked. Her eyes were looking at the monitors, that's when I'd realized there'd been a rapid beeping sound.

As I let the news sink in though, it slowed, eventually stopping.

"I apologize for blurting it, but your blood pressure was rising and your body's been through enough trauma, this unnecessary stress would've hurt you tremendously."

"Oh," I whispered. "So then, where is he?"

She looked at Day, "Sir could you leave the room, so I can priv—"

I was on the verge of a panic attack and I didn't— couldn't wait any longer. "He's the father! Now talk.., please"

She nodded, "You may want to take a seat, sir."

It was after he'd pulled a chair beside me looking shocked, that she'd started explaining everything that happened to me—us, my baby and I.
