Tory

She stunned me when she came up the stairs that yellow dress, her hair flowing perfectly in the breeze.

I'd thought she looked good in red, but in yellow, she owned it.

We'd been on the mend and things were looking good. Wasn't no one on this earth still living that made me happier than my woman and my daughter.

The evening had been going wonderfully, the conversation buzzed at the table like a happy swarm of bees.

Yona's mother, Tiny, Tyona, and Gregg had been invited along with a few of her colleagues and distant relatives.

I took a deep breath before standing up at the table, once I'd gotten everyone's attention, I began.

"I know most of y'all don't really know about me and Yona's past, but that's not really what matters." I turned towards Yona who had Tamika in her lap, but soon handed her off to Keem, who was next to her.

"Yona, baby." I took her hands in mine, urging her to stand up. "Every time I look at you, I just feel so damn lucky..." I chuckled, "To this day, I still don't understand what you saw in me, but there's no one else on this earth I'd rather build a life with."

She'd looked away, a shy smile on her bold red tinted lips.

I got down on one knee, causing everyone to gasp including herself, once she'd faced me again.

Her hands had flung up over her mouth, "Oh, my..," she trailed.

"Ayona Summers, you're my weakness and my strength all together. You're the reason I live and also the reason I question life sometimes-"

"I'm telling you," was what had been whispered by her brother before he'd been shushed making me chuckle.

Ol' nigga was crazy.

"-Even though you drive me crazy, ain't nobody ever gone hold my heart and soul the way you do..."

Looking into those almond shaped eyes that captured my attention all those years ago, "Ayona Summers, will you love a nigga til the end?"

Her gleaming teeth sparkled blindly in the lights. The corner of her eyes, glimmered as she nodded, "Yea," She croaked, clearing her throat before trying again, "Yes!"

Everyone at the table cheered, applauding. Finally, after sliding the ring on her finger , I stood up, taking her in my arms kissing her as my fiancée.
