Keem found a seat close by while I sighed Tamika and I in for her check up.

"Who got the cutest niece in the world?" He cooed in his deep voice at her. The corner of my lips tugged as I tried to focus on the paper I was signing.

She giggled. My heart. There was no other feeling in the world than hearing the sweet laugh of your child—just knowing they were safe and happy.

I mean Tamika had a whole army looking out for her well being. Lord knew, Keem and Porsha, worshipped Tamika. She was probably going to grow up spoiled, but I hoped I could keep them from completely ruining her.

"How are you today—" The nurse at the counter glanced at the clipboard she'd just taken from me. "Ms. Summers?"

I smiled, making brief eye contact. "I'm good, you?"

"Hanging in there." She replied, I could tell she was exhausted, she must've been working a long double.

"Aren't we all?" I chuckled. "I'm telling you honey, I cannot wait to get some sleep."

She typed something up, soon after the printer behind her started printing. She grabbed a sheet, sliding it in front of me.

"This is just so we can confirm you made the appointment." I nodded, quickly reading over the sheet before signing.

"Alright, that's it. You'll be called shortly. Have a good one."

"You too." Walking over to Keem, I took a seat. He had her car seat on the table beside him, while she was in his arms.

I turned towards him—he'd been engrossed in entertaining Tamika. "Keem."

He hadn't even spared me a glance, "Yea."

"Is Daystar— What's going on with you two?"

"What you mean?" I knew they were best homies and they were supposedly ride or die, but he was never around.

"I'm not stupid, Keem something's up with him. If Mika didn't have a damn appointment we— I wouldn't have seen him for almost two months, now."

He finally looked up, "Ayo, I ever give you a reason for you not to trust me?" I didn't say anything.

"Don't worry bout him. Ight? I got his back no matter what." I nodded, that reassured me—only a little, though.

I wanted to say more, but Day had walked in. "We still waiting?" Keem and I nodded as he sat next to me.

As we sat in the waiting room, I couldn't help but think back on what Porsha had told me almost a month ago.

She's right, but I wanted him to be himself again before we got together. I knew without hesitation that he was the one for me.

I just wanted to be back on my feet and independent when we go together again, if we even would.

I glanced over, wanting to say something, but thought against it—he looked distraught.

Everything had checked out with Tamika's check up. She was perfectly healthy.

After our appointment, I'd gone to set up next months appointment before we all headed outside towards the car, with Day leading us.

Suddenly, I'd gotten a bad feeling. My grip on Mika's car seat handle tightened. I had no idea why.

"Da—"

A loud bang, followed by a ringing sounded out, briefly paralyzing me. Things moved so fast, I didn't think I was fully aware of anything except the need to protect Mika.
