By lunch, I had the low-down on the clique that I had met earlier just by listening to all the conversations that were going on around me. Who knew that this school was filled with so many gossips?
I found out that the girl that Chris was making out with, is Kelsey Taylor. Kelsey is the head of the cheerleading squad and Chris is the captain of the football team, as well as the quarterback. She and Chris have an on again off again relationship.
Ned is the football teams running back and is a huge player. He's the biggest pervert this school has ever seen, yet every girl is lining up to sleep with him. Blake is the football teams wide receiver. He doesn't generally date a range of girls and is seen as sweetheart by most. Although isn't seen as much by girls at this school.
Looks like I've managed to catch the eyes of one of the most popular cliques in this school. Who would have guessed?
I head to the bathroom where I immediately hear chatter. "What's the new girl's deal?" One questions as I stand in the cubicle, out of sight.
"I don't know for sure but there's a rumour that she's a schizophrenic who escaped prison after murdering her brother" the other whispers.
"She reminds me of that girl that died last year" the first girl adds. "Maybe she's a ghost"
"I heard that she killed him with her bare hands," a third girl adds before the three leave the bathroom.
I really do not miss high school. Rumours are vicious as well as the students who spread them. I release a deep breath before flushing the toilet and exiting the cubical. I wash my hands before glaring at my reflection in the mirror.
The deep unsettling feeling of sadness corses it way through my body as I stand there watching the girl in the mirror. I don't think the version of me from four years ago would recognise me. That version was less broken then the one standing here now. I wonder if the version of myself in four years time will be an improvement or perhaps more damaged?
By looking at my reflection now, I understand why people are acting as though I'm from an entire different plant. After all, I'm not as clean cut as the rest of them, with my body being covered in scars and tattoos.
I take a another deep breath before exiting the bathroom. I walk through the hallways where everybody's eyes are on me. My heart beats a little bit quicker and I feel my jaw automatically clench in discomfort.
Okay, so it seems that people at this school actually believe rumours.
Just great.
By the time I make it to the cafeteria, I see Jenny sitting with her friends. She begins making gestures that indicate that she wants me to sit with them. I take my tray to their table where I take a seat beside Blake.
"How's your first day going?" Blake asks me with a sweet smile.
"Hey is it true that you murdered your brother and escaped a high-security prison?" Jenny cries curiously.
Wow, rumours travel fast.
"You know I like a bad girl" Ned smiles at me.
"That's my leg" Blake glares at his friend who sat across the table.
"She'll have to be pretty skilled to escape a high-security prison" Chris points out as taking a sip from his bottle.
"Yeah, you're right" Jenny giggles.
Wow, she really likes him. I wonder how long her crush has been going on as it appears that Chris is completely oblivious.
"How many tats do you have?" Blake asks me.
"Two duh" Ned points to my breasts.
"Tattoos you idiot" Jenny rolls her eyes.
I hold back a chuckle as holding up four fingers. I then take a bite from my cafeteria mini pizza.
"Can I see them?" Blake wonders.
"That's a little forward" Ned laughs.
"Still talking about her tattoos" Chris smirks at Ned.
"That's so cool," Blake comments.
"And your parents consented to that?" Jenny widens her eyes. "How old were you when you first got one?"
"Your parents must be cool," Blake says.
I nod slowly, taking another bite of my pizza. Cool isn't the word that I would use to describe my father. Laid-back and lenient are a better choice of words. However, if you asked anyone else, they would use more colourful language to describe him.
Suddenly Kelsey approaches Chris with a passionate kiss. His friends all make the same face, that tells me that they are not okay with their relationship.
"Eww, it's you" Kelsey glares at me. "Hey is it true you were in jail for manslaughter?"
Firstly, she just greeted me with 'Eww'. Secondly, damn rumours travel fast in this school.
"How many times has someone asked you that today?" Blake asks with a half-smile.
I look to Blake and smile, our eyes locked in. I haven't felt safe with anyone in a really long time. Something about every interaction with Blake comforts me.
Suddenly Kelsey whispers something in her boyfriend's ear, making him stand up quickly.
"See you later guys," Chris says before they both leave our sights.
We all sit in silence for a moment while Jenny releases her frustation through facial expressions.
"Sorry about that, she can be a real bitch," Jenny says to me. "Why is he still with her?"
I'm assuming that none of them are friends with Kelsey. I don't blame them, to be honest, she seems like a bitch. Back home, we didn't have girls like her. We only ever say pretty hoes on tv.
"Cause she's got boobs," Ned says simply.
I smirk before looking behind Ned. There I see a familiar girl in the distance, she looks just like me just with blue eyes, lighter skin, and darker hair.
My eyes widen, as my heart rate increases. Not now, please, why now?
She always has impeccable timing.
Shake it off, she's not real.
Suddenly she fades away.

A/N - 29/09/19Hi all,
Just pointing out something that hopefully you guys have picked up on. Evangeline navigates the world through observation. Instead of speaking, she observes her surroundings and little by little, puts all the pieces together.
Sometimes it will appear that she's 'sticking her nose where it doesn't belong', but observing and asking questions is the only way she feels safe in her environment.
Also, any theories on what happened at the end of this chapter?
Thank you
Happy reading!
