Epilogue

I sit alone at a coffee shop in Washington. My fingertips drumming against the table while the sound of violent rain fills my ears. I hope it doesn't start hailing. Suddenly the rain turns into loud thumping against the windows.

Uh and there it is.
Hail.

I ignore it.

In front of me sits a tall sticky chai latte and a notepad filled with sketches. The navy blue sky and the bright stars usually give me inspiration — that's why I come here, after all. However today the sky is dark and gloomy. A storm is coming. Usually that would remind me of the night my sister died, driving me so deep into my own mind that I don't know what's in my head and what's reality — that doesn't happen to me anymore. It's merely a passing thought. Something I acknowledge then move on from.

My phone buzzes. I look down and find a message from Ned.

I met a girl!!!

I smirk.

There's always a girl

This one is 6'1 EVAA
I've never been with a TALL girl before

Have fun little brother

I look up to find a waitress beside me, stealing a quick peak at my sketch book. She wears a white button-up and black pants.

"Can I get you anything else, ma'am?"

"No, thank you" I smile at the woman.

Ma'am - how formal.

"It's coming along" she comments, looking down at my notepad.

"I don't know" I admit, "it's due tomorrow and I feel like I'm still lost"

The waitress smiles, "you'll get there," with that, she slowly returns behind the counter.

Whenever I have art block, I come here. The waitress gives me free Chai Lattes as long as I let her see what I'm working on. She reminds me a lot of Ms Walsh — she's filled with wisdom and creativity.

"The strongest thing you have" the man orders.

I recognise that voice. My eyes move to the man standing at the counter, wearing denim jeans and a leather jacket. A helmet in his hand.

"Long day?" The waitress asks him.

"Yeah, I'm riding in from New York" he explains.

I stand up and take a step towards the man. I tap his shoulder gently with a scared grin on my face. I haven't seen him in far too long.

The man turns around slowly, his eyes widen in recognition. He has facial hair now. I've never seen him with facial hair before. It makes him look older, more mature. Without it, I know he'll still look like the guy I used to know.

"Hi, Sam" I greet him nervously.

"Eva" he greets.

I smile "no, Angel?"

Sam smirks, "well...she doesn't exist, remember? So did you grow into the person you wanted to be?"

I nod slowly, "yeah I think I'm getting there, day by day."

They say if you love someone set them free.

But if they come back, never let them go.

So that's what I do.

I wrap my arms around him tightly, silently vowing to never let him go.
