I sit on the hospital bed with furrowed brows. Waiting for a doctor or nurse to return.
"You gave me a heart attack" a woman cries as entering the room, with a guy beside her.
Oh, here we go.
"I'm fine" I roll my eyes, "the doctor said that all I have is a concussion"
This is when I'm forced to comfort my aunt instead of her comforting me. Which means I need to lie my ass off in order to avoid getting grounded or some shit like that.
"The doc said you split your eye" Jason points out.
"That too" I roll my eyes.
Jason could at least help me avoid getting grounded.
"Look at yourself" aunt Laura throws her hands in the air "look at your eye"
"That bad huh?" I raise a brow.
The worse I look means the more times I need to explain why I look so bad to other people - which is exhausting.
"You look like you got into a fight with a fully grown man" Jason points out.
"Does it look like I won?" I smirk.
Gotta make light of the situation somehow, right?
"This is not funny, you know you could have been killed!" Aunt Laura cries.
"But I wasn't" I point out.
"But you could've" she raises her voice. "Were you drunk? Is that what happened?"
C'mon. I do a lot of dumb shit but drink drive is ridiculous. I could never.
"No" I roll my eyes "a car cut me off, in order to avoid a collision I had to swerve... I didn't see the pole" I frown in embarrassment.
"It's not her fault aunt Laura" Jason folds his arms "she would have been worse off if she hadn't swerved"
There's a moment of silence as Aunt Laura ponders. She's like a judge on a reality cooking show - it's impossible to know what she's thinking.
"I'm still mad" she sighs.
Good so I'm off the hook - not completely but getting there.
"How does my bike look?" I question curiously.
Words cannot explain how much I love that bike. If it's ruined I'll have to go back to walking to school.
"Better than you" Jason admits in an amused tone.
Just great. It's gonna cost a ton to repair. Which is money that I don't have.
"Did you ride straight into the pole?" My aunt Laura interrogates.
"The side of my bike hit the pole" I explain "then I flew off the handlebars...and slid across the pavement"
"Jesus" she sighs.
"I'm fine! All I have is a concussion and a split eye" I explain.
"And two broken ribs along with three broken fingers, a sprained ankle and sprained wrist" the doctor folds his arms as entering the room "and let's not forget the road rash...we had to dress her hands, knees, and elbows"
"Next time try to be so blunt" I roll my eyes at the man.
"You're grounded till the end of the century" my aunt declares.
"She's free to go" the 6'2 doctor informs as running his finger through his thick brown hair.
He looks like he's in his late thirties, early forties. I'm usually dead silent around doctors, but not him. I mean I was silent around the nurses, but I don't know, something about him, makes me feel completely at peace.
