When Friday rolls around, Ned is trying to convince everyone to go to the party that night. It seems that at Riverside high, there is always a party that you could be attending.
"We're going" Ned cries.
"No we're not" Jenny rolls her eyes.
"Yes, we are" Ned argues.
This argument has been going on for about an hour. It's drilling a hole in my head.
"So how are you today Evangeline?" Blake smiles as Jenny and Ned continue to argue.
Well, I found out that my grandmother has a fatal illness that is causing her to slowly lose her mind, but of course, he doesn't want a truthful answer. They never do.
"Fine" I nod.
"Have you seen Chris?" a voice questions from in front of us.
We all look up to see Kelsey with her hands on her hips.
"Who Marcus?" Jenny assumes, "nope, haven't seen him"
Well, that's a lie. I saw them talking like ten minutes ago.
"Well when you do, tell him that I am not impressed with the stunt that he pulled last night," she says before vanishing.
What stunt? Oh, I'm curious now. I always thought that Kelsey had Chris wrapped around her little finger, I guess not.
"Liar" Blake says to Jenny with an impressed smile.
"I'm impressed Jen" Ned smirks.
"I have no idea what you're talking about?" Jenny lies.
We all literally saw her talking to Chris. She's not a very good liar but somehow Kelsey believed it.
"Lying to the cheerleading captain," Ned says.
"I wasn't-" she continues to deny.
"Thanks for getting Michelle Hopper to speak to me Jen," Chris says as walking towards us.
"You were saying?" Ned smirks.
I think the only people that actually believe Jenny's lies are Kelsey and Chris. Everybody else can read her like an open book. I mean, I doubt that Chris is aware that Jenny is crushing on him, I wonder if anything would change if he did?
"Kelsey seemed mad" Blake informed Chris, "what did you do?"
"Don't worry about it?" Chris says as we slowly enter the cafeteria.
"You came home late last night and she said-" Blake starts.
"I said don't worry" Chris repeats.
How would Blake know that Chris came home last night? Do they live together or something?
"Came home late?" I question in a hushed tone to Jenny as the boys walk in front of us.
"They're brothers," Jenny says simply "didn't you know?"
What? Firstly, they look nothing alike, and secondly, they're both seniors, and lastly, how did was I unaware of this?
"But they're both seniors" I point out.
"They're twins Evangeline" Jenny explains.
"Twins? But they look nothing alike" I say.
"Their fraternal" she explains "Meaning not identical"
"How could I not have known?" I ask.
"Maybe you're not observant"
I could work these people out like a second-grade math equation. How could I miss this? I glare at the two. They're so different. Chris is the school's football captain and Blake is a sweetheart. Blake is funny and cheery, Chris is a smooth-talking player.
My heart starts accelerating as I grow more frustrated with myself for being not as observant as I should have been. I guess my body is still responding as though I need to be fighting for survival.
"Is something wrong?" Blake smiles at me.
"Nothing at all" I shake my head slowly.
"I'll give each of you twenty bucks if you come to the party with me" Ned announces as we take a seat at our usual table.
Twenty bucks is good money for me. After all, it's not like my grandparents give me pocket money. I need to upgrade my clothes and makeup asap.
"Make it thirty and we have a deal," Chris says quickly.
"Chris!" Jenny throws her hands in the air.
"Same here" I smirk.
"Ned, you can't just throw around your rich kid's money when you want us to do something" Jenny rolls his eyes at Ned.
Blake shakes his head, "yes he can"
Ned claps his hands together as laughing hysterically, "so we're all in?"
Jenny groans with a frown "fine! you win"
"Yes!" Ned cries as standing up from his seat and banging both fists against his chest like a gorilla.
I struggle to hold back my laughter as Blake turns his head to me, "before you ask, yes we're always like this" he informs.
I smirk "fully noted"
I could get used to this kind of entertainment. Suddenly the strong scent of roses fills my nostrils, we all snap our heads behind me where we see Kelsey with folded arms and an unamused expression.
"Chris" she clenches her jaw.
Chris sighs as following her out of the cafeteria. "Does anyone know what that's about?" Jenny asks us all.
Blake shrugs, "I don't know, he came home late last night, that's all I know"
We all lean back in our seats and watch Chris and Kelsey in the distance arguing. There is trouble in paradise, that's all we know for sure.
