Damon's POV
"Have you talked to Joaquin lately?"
"No."
"He's either avoiding me or hanging with those odd friends of his." I scoff.
"Who cares about him right now, if I didn't know any better I'd think you were in love with him." She rolls her eyes in a playful manner but her words hold jealousy.
"No need to be jealous. There's enough of me to go around."
"I'm not big on sharing, sorry."
"You have my full attention, I won't bring him up again." She stays quiet but a smirk spread across her face.
Maybe I did bring him up a lot, but in my defense I did the same thing when she ghosted me.
I think I'm starting to become clingy?
"I thought you guys were buddy- buddy, you don't like him anymore?"
"I do... I did. Ugh I don't know."
"Did something happen I should know about?"
"Well... no nevermind it's not important." She waves off.
"C'mon tell me." I pull her closer to me.
"I handled it."
"Lylah, what exactly did you handle?"
"Fine, I defended you since you weren't around to defend yourself. He said some mean things about you." She brings her hand up to my cheek.
"Like?" I take a deep breath and try to hide my anger.
"He was mocking you for crying over your brother when you supposedly hated him. He even said you were becoming clingy. So I told him off and said he was a bad friend." She looks away from me before finishing. "I'm sorry if I overstepped."
"No it's okay. He's right, just didn't think he'd say it behind my back."
"I'm sorry you had to hear it from me, I know how close you guys are." She situated herself on my lap.
"I guess we aren't as close as I thought. I can't even confront him about it because he won't reply." I groan out in frustration.
"Probably those new friends of his, influencing him."
"Maybe." I fall back on the pillows with my hands under my head.
"Hey forget everything I just told you." She looks down at me with a sad smile. "Let's talk about something else."
"Go to homecoming with me."
"Seriously?"
"What, you don't like dances?"
"Uh yeah I guess, it's two weeks from now right?"
"You weren't planning on going? Wow that's a shock."
I thought a girl like her would be into this dumb shit?
"Well I didn't have a boyfriend or a date... but now I do so I'll make time for it." She crawls off of my hips and walks towards the closet.
"Didn't realize you were such a busy girl." I chuckle, raising up on my elbows to get a better look at her body.
"I don't have anything to wear, I need to go look for a dress."
"We can go tomorrow after school if you want?"
"Sure sounds good."
"I'll even pay if you wear your real hair to the dance."
"You can't be serious?" She gives a flat look.
"Dead serious." I hold my hand out.
She waits a few seconds as if she's weighing out her options before she shakes my hand.
"Deal."
