Nico rushed up the steps of his building, knowing his most hated enemy was in the elevator.
He would not be late because of a little no sleep- he's used to it at this point.
7 months worth of insomnia and only 2-4 hours of sleep a night? Nothing Nico couldn't handle.

Him and Will solace had been work rivals since day one.
Neither of them had ever been late, never taken a sick day, and of course they had all the same work days, and were hired at the same time 3 years ago.

Working at New York Times was a hard job as it is, but when you're constantly trying to beat someone else, it's just more of a competition. Nico had to have better grammar, he could not make a single mistake to give to the editor, and he would have the better article. He had to, or Will would win.

He wasn't sure when this began- it felt like it had always been this way- but even more so a couple months ago when their chief was choosing someone in their department for a promotion.

Nico didn't need the extra money, but it would definitely help. Living alone in New York is hard, and very expensive.

Out of breath, he finally made it to his level, and determined he sped walked to the door.
But then the elevator dinged.

Will practically tumbled out, and crashed right into Nico.

They both stumbled, and stared at each other for a second before sprinting to the door of their office, Nico arriving a fraction of a second before Will and slipped through the door.

"Haha you beat me, good job," Will rolled his eyes, smoothing his blue work shirt out. It complimented his eyes- not that Nico would ever tell him that.

"I'll always beat you solace," he shot a glare at the taller man,
"And I will get that promotion, you'll see."

Nico turned and said hello to the secretary before stomping off to his desk.
The exhaustion was settling back in after the short burst of adrenaline and he could feel his energy draining.
He practically collapsed into his chair in front of his computer.

Obviously Wills desk was across from his, because his boss has it out for him, so Will happily sat on his chair with a smug smile, like He knew something Nico didn't.
Nico squinted at him, but shook his head and typed his password into his computer. He wouldn't let Will throw him off his game anymore than he already was. He forgot a belt- and couldn't find his glasses earlier that morning, so he had hastily put in contacts before rushing out of his apartment.

His hair was probably a mess, as he woke up too late to shower- and no way would he be late and be below Will Solace. He would never let it down.

He was always trying to sabotage Nico, stealing his pens, writing on his sticky notes, and creating arguments so that Nico never got enough work done, so when he did get home late at night he still had stuff to do, when he could be taking a more than deserved nap.

Nico rubbed his eyes tiredly, and tried to focus as he clicked on his recent article that he needed to finish in the next couple days.
He never missed a deadline, never, and he was not going to start now because he couldn't sleep.

He knew he had chronic insomnia, although he wasn't sure exactly why.
He knew he probably worked to much, and was maybe a little to high strung for his age, and maybe he should try and get out more and not obsess over work, but what was the point if he didn't get this promotion. Then he would have a couple hours less a week- instead of 8-9 hour days he could have 7- and maybe start going out like his friends try to make him do every once in a while.
