Chapter One: Halloween
___________________

Halloween.

It was bloody Halloween for bloody's sake. Lily and James hated being cooped up in a home, down in Godrics Hollow for so long. But if Dumbledore ordered them to for their child's safety, they had to.

Only God knows this was the day Voldemort was coming.

Lily's P.O.V

This was driving me to the tip of insanity. How am I supposed to breathe within such a small home that was hidden from the world with the Fidelius Charm? I felt so limited, like the friends I have weren't allowed to talk to me. Yes, the visits we have from Sirius and Remus and often Peter were good and fun, but it wasn't enough.

I missed my own friends. As much as I loved Sirius, Remus and Peter; what about Mary and Alice? Bloody hell, I missed them. Fresh air would be nice.

"Lily!!!" I heard James call from the upstairs. I was in the sitting room, a cup of tea and an old book within my shaky fingers. Don't ask me why I'm shaky, of course I'm shaky! Who wouldn't be, there's a Dark Lord out there hunting my family down. "Lily come here!"

Slowly, I put down my cup of tea, as well the book and go up the stairs. James is in Harry's room. That can't be good.

"James?" I said softly, entering the lit room. James is holding Harry out at arms' length, his nose scrunched up in disgust. "James what's wrong?"

"He's vomiting." James growled in disgust, handing Harry over to me. I rock my little darling, his green eyes watery and his mouth covered with brown. Without hesitating I use my sleeve to wipe the remainder throw up away.

"What happened to him? Is he sick?" I asked, setting Harry down into his crib and covering his abdomen with the baby blue blankets. James put a strong arm around me as we watched the wee child kick around in his crib. Bloody hell, he looked sickly jade.

"I believe so. But you can brew a potion for him within minutes, right?" James sounds hopeful, but my hopes fall.

I pull on a small smile, but honestly it doesn't mean anything. How could I do a real smile in a time like this?

I can't whip up a potion within minutes. We don't have any bloody ingredients, it was all at our old home but Dumbledore ushered us out before I could take anything like that.

But there is one person I know who could brew a potion faster than I could. It doesn't matter...he's out of my life. Gone for good, it's been that way for years. He doesn't talk to me and I don't talk to him. But even if he called me a mudblood and was so consumed in the dark arts, Severus Snape was still a big part of my life. And he always will be, no matter how hard I try to forget him.

"We haven't anything to make a potion." I reply in a small voice. "Maybe...maybe I can go to the Apothecary."

The sigh that emits from his mouth brings my spirit down a little. He won't let me go, he'll say it's too dangerous.

But it's not bloody dangerous, I can take care of myself.

"Lily..."

"James please. It's just a small trip, it's not like I'm going to be hunted down and killed in that small lapse of time. Harry needs it." I beg, lifting my hand to stroke his cheek. James smirks and nods carefully.

"You're sure Lily?"

"I'm sure James."

"Be quick, it's almost dark out. Don't leave me worrying."

"I won't." I go onto my tiptoes and kiss his cheek, then go to our room for a cloak.

//

It's dark. Very dark here in Diagon Alley. I fail to understand why, since it is only afternoon.

It should not be dark.

And that's something you'd worry about, especially with dark times we're living in. Everyone could be dangerous and only I'm oblivious enough to know that a simple man standing beside me could be associated with dark magic, with Voldemort.

I finally found the Apothecary. I enter as quiet as I can, prancing like a cat. I am wearing a black cloak over my clothes, and have my hood up over my head so it hides my long red hair as well as my face.

With my feet moving swift and silent, I move down the aisles with my head down, but my eyes up looking for a Bicorn Horn and Mandrake Root for the Pepperup Potion. If that won't make my baby feel better, we're screwed big time.

"Bicorn....bicorn...." I murmur to myself, moving down the aisle slowly, my eyes observing as much potion ingredients as possible.

"Aha!" I squeal softly, reaching my hand out to take the bicorn horn off the shelf. I examine it, making sure it's well enough for the potion. It is.

I turn on my heel, with my head bent low, and walk out of the aisle. Obviously I'm a klutz and shouldn't have my head down and I step on someone's shoe accidentally.

"I'm so sorry-" I begin, automatically snapping my head up to look at whoever I had stepped on.

A small gasp escapes from my mouth.

My Merlin.

It's Severus. Severus Snape himself.

A/N:

So that was nerve racking....I can't believe this is being published.

I'm very excited though, I have a small little twist for the story, and Harry's illness is very important. Poor baby :(
