Chapter Thirty-Eight: Lily's Secret
______________||Lily||
A faint tapping noise emitted from the window.
I got up from the breakfast table and made my way over to the window, where an owl was patiently awaiting entry.
Sliding the window up, a snowy owl hopped in. It dropped a letter to the floor, and hurried away. If only my problems could fly away as easily...
"Are you alright?" Severus' deep baritone voice sounded from behind me. "You're frowning."
"I'm not frowning."
"I can tell that you're frowning."
My lip was curled downwards, and my eyebrows were indeed knitted. I turned around to face him, and fought back a small laugh. It looked like he just got out of bed; with his dark hair tousled and messy, and a mug of lazily made coffee loosely between his fingers.
"I just received a letter from work... I'm being called into the store today." I grumbled -- why couldn't money just fall from the skies?
It was Sev's turn to frown. Weekdays were always busy, but now that summer had approached everything's supposed to be easier. We'd be able to see each other more often, especially before a potential war breaks out. When that godforsaken event does take place, I'm the opposing side. He's the component. Even when I'm in love with him.
"It's a weekend... ?" He said, quirking an eyebrow.
"I know - I'm sorry. Listen, would you mind... would you mind taking care of Harry for the day? Just until 5pm -- I'm really sorry Severus."
"Stop your apologizing. I'd do anything for you, even babysitting." He probably meant for his voice to enter its deep, dark descending manner -- but instead he smirked amusingly. Although he won't admit it, he and Harry seem to enjoy each other's company.
I tip toed and planted a light kiss on his lips. It may have been years I've known him, months I've loved him... but I could still feel the butterflies in my stomach and my legs go jelly when I'm with him. I know he thinks that he isn't worthy of the affection I bestow upon him, but he's a good person with a good heart. Not everyone will understand that, and that's okay -- he doesn't give a buggering shit about what anyone thinks.
"I've got to go get ready - but I nearly forgot about Harry's appointment at St Mungos. It's at 5pm, would you be able to go cancel it? Cancel all his remaining appointments too... I don't want him to see the Healers after... "
My voice trailed as my brain geared. Horcrux... it was still a mystery I was fervent to unravel. I didn't understand the concept, but Sev assured me that it's over. Dumbledore gave him a potion that would cure it all. That doesn't seem right.
Oh stop Lily; Severus wouldn't lie to me. Especially about something so crucially important to me and my son.
"Yes sure, I'll drop by the hospital later. Anything else?" He asked, voice rich and quite drowsy. It was an alluring sound to listen to... a husky morning drone.
I grinned. "Perhaps a kiss goodbye?"
"Cheeky minx," Though there was a small hint of faux irritation, he brushed his lips swiftly upon my forehead. "Now go, otherwise I may just change my mind."
